Theoretical framework
- CDC has explained the meaning of mental health and its importance to overall
health. They conclude that a person’s mental health can change over time,
depending on many factors. Mental illnesses are among the most common health
conditions and they have no single cause. + source

- SAGE Journal has pointed out the adverse impact of the COVID 19 epidemic on
the poor mental health of young people by a cross-sectional survey with 622
participants using a specific tool and other measures. The result showed that
participants across samples reported substantial mental health service disruptions
and unmet support needs. Thereby, they call on promoting the accessibility of
health services, especially relating to the psychological aspect, and raising the
awareness of young people about this issue. + source

- Cambridge University Press has conducted detailed research into the

consequences in terms of youth mental health due to the pandemic. The author
found out that disrupted transitions caused by COVID-19 may be the root of the
negative psychosocial effects of the pandemic. The World Health Organization
recommends that the mental health needs of young people should be included
within coordinated statutory disaster response mechanisms through at minimum
the dissemination of psychoeducational and self-help resources for young people
to promote universal advice on maintaining positive health behaviors. Besides, the
writer thinks that there may be opportunities for positive changes in improving
relationships among youngsters’ families and friends and chances for scientists to
investigate the phenomenons. + source

- Youngsters have experienced numerous psychological challenges during the

COVID-19 crisis, regarding the UN news. It can be clearly seen that some of the
causes contributing to increased tension are unemployment resulting in loss of
income, sickness, social isolation, the uncertainty of what the future holds,
helplessness, and lack of individual control over the situation. Eventually, there
has been an increase in the percentage of youth suicide because they were unable
to deal with depression. The writers advise governments and academic staffs
should join hands to ensure that teenagers have the support they need to fight
against mental problems. + source
