1 EXT. AT SCHOOL - DURING LUNCH 1

Scene 1

Doyinsola and her friend - Hauwa- are sitting at lunch

Ba
discussing about random things

DOYINSOLA
(With a serious but not
authoritative tone)
I saw a tiktok this morning how
ck
music was before and how it is now.

HAUWA
(says in agreement)
Yessssss! I think I saw that, I
also saw one of a lady doing the
'over the decades' dressing witch i
thought was quite cool, and
to
impressive how she was able to do
all those styles

DOYINSOLA
Yes I have seen alot of those
videos too. But regardless, what I
ou
wanted to say ealier is that it got
me thinking; what about us? What
about our dressings before now?
what was our quality of education
like? You know, this isnt just
about Nigerian culture, its about
rr

us as individual and independent

people

HAUWA
(Understanding her
oo

friends point and noding

in agreement)
I agree, what about our music? our
social life? the stark difference
in our morality? Before the world
became a global village, and before
ts

culture fusion what and who were

we?

Adaobi- another friend of theirs - join them for lunch

momentarily disrupting the conversation

ADAOBI
(Confused)

The times we live in

2.

What are you two talking about?

DOYINSOLA
(Smiling at her)
oh, we were just talking about some
tiktoks that showed the diffrences
between the times then and now, and
Ba how we dont even know much about
ourselves as people historically

ADAOBI
(nodding her head)
(Ahhh, I understand. It
ck
is true I have been
seeing alot of those "
over the decade' videos.
And you are right, we
dont know much about
ourselves, we think we do
because we know the major
historical things but see
to
actually dont. In fact my
father once said that the
history, civics and
social studies we're
taught now are - to an
extent- meddled with.)
ou
Hauwa and Doyinsola hum in agreement whilst nodding

ADAOBI
(continuing her
statement)
rr

Guys, I think we should make our

own over the decades video,... no
In fact lets make a presentation to
the school at the end of the term,
other students need to know and be
inspired to embark on a journey of
oo

their own

DOYINSOLA AND HAUWA

Yesssss
ts

HAUWA
Lets do that

DOYINSOLA
Thats a great idea but we dont have
much time school would close in two
weeks.

ADAOBI

The times we live in

3.

(is silent for a while

then speaks)
well, since its impromptu, the aim
is to motivate others, but we'll
just highlight on key aspects like
dressing, music, social life and
morality.
Ba
2 EXT. END OF SCHOOL - AFTERNOON 2

Scene 2
ck
The three girls are walking to the bus ares while still
discussing the presentation

DOYINSOLA
We would need to start working on
this today, let go home and do some
research and start making the
presentation. We need to prensent
to
this by next week wednesday

ADAOBI
No problem, but we also meed to
consult our teachers and parents to
hear their perspective
ou
HAUWA
of course

They say goodbye and diverge to their respective buses

ADEBISI

The times we live in

4.

AYOTUNDE
Ah, eyi ti o jẹ lori awọn ewadun
lẹẹkansi. ehn? What is it about?

Doyinsola explains it to her parents, and the nod in

understanding. They tell her its a good idea and they're
there to help if she need help.
Ba
Meanwhile a similar scene happend at Hauwa's and Adaobi's
House.

4 INT. IN SCHOOL - THE NEXT DAY 4

At short break the trio begin to dicuss all the had done
the previous day regarding the presntaion

ADAOBI
to
I think we should tell the
principal and vice principle of our
plan before we go any further

HAUWA
Yes, but regardless of whether they
approve or not we are still doing
ou
it for oureselves

DOYINSOLA
I agree, let's talk to them during
lunch break. So... what did you two
gather yesterday
rr

ADAOBI
well, my father told me about the
quality of our culture in the past.
Of upbringing and culture. He said
oo

that over the years methods of

parenting are changing, but as it
changed culture was still
preserved. But he said that as
technology advanced, culture began
to diminish especially in our
ts

generation

HAUWA
Real. My mother told me about
nigerian rock music

DOYINSOLA AND ADAOBI

What?!?! Rock? ke?

The times we live in

5.

DOYINSOLA
As per rock like rock and roll? Or
do you mean fela kuti, King Sunny
Ade and others?

ADAOBI
Honestly, please explantion
Ba
HAUWA
(laughing,gasping for
air)
That was excatly my reaction. She
told me that after years being
ck
ravaged by the Biafran civil war,
Bands like Semi-Colon, Grotto and
the Funkees filled the decade with
psych-laced funk in the '70s

DOYINSOLA AND HAUWA

(intrigued)
Wow
to
DOYINSOLA
My father talked about how morality
in our genereation has diminsehed
immensly, with people normalising
things like lgbtqia+++ having more
ou
than one genders, rudeness to older
ones and just things that they
would not have gotten way with.
rr

ADAOBI
Thats so true, these are all good
points lets put these in to words
later. As for now lets head back to
class
oo

At lunch break they go to the principal to ask for

permission to do the the presentation, they got the
permission but they would have to present it on Monday and
not Wednesday because there is already a fixed program on
Wednesday. Happy the Three girls went about their day
ts

vibrantly

5 INT. AT THEIR HOUSES - SATURDAY MORNING 5

7 INT. AT SCHOOL - THE NEXT DAY - AFTERNOON 7

Scene 7

The day of the presentation has arrived and the girls are a
to
little bit nervous. They are to make their presentation
during lunch time, and are currently rehearsing. Its
finally time and they are called up on stage

DOYINSOLA
Good aftenoon school, my name is
Doynisola Akinyemi and I am here to
ou
make a presentation with my friends
- Hauwa Bilal and Adaobi Azubuike -
about our roots, about the
difference between then and now.

HAUWA
rr

Often at times people our age dont

seem to bother to look back at our
past . To bother to ask, where are
we coming form that we got here.
Nowadays we just have the ' it is
oo

what it is' mentality.

ADAOBI
The aim of this is not to bore you,
be abstruse or be overly
histroical. Yes, there would be
ts

history, but the primary aim is to

make you curious enough to find
your self or rather who you would
have been.
(P/N Here the actors have
liberty to freestyle
their lines if need be)

DOYINSOLA

The times we live in

7.

Initially we were to go through

each decade but time may not allow.

HAUWA
The truth remains that since that
our time has a completly diffrent
mentality. We stand up to things
Ba
that were just there and never
qustioned but sometimes we tend to
over step our boundaries. In our
pursuit for answers and knowlege we
come out as rude and pushy
