1. Introducing the topic/subject-specific vocabulary: Telling SS that they are going to
learn about exterior parts of a car. SS look at the pictures on p.28. Volunteers read the vocabulary aloud and look at the pictures. 2. Activating language: Reading out the pre-reading questions. Discussing the questions as a class. 3. Reading: Each student reads a sentence until it is completed. SS make a list of words they do not know. Encourage students to guess or use a dictionary. Students read silently. ACTIVITIES Ask comprehension questions. For example: What might be a problem with the wipers?, What should a mechanic look for on the grill?, When should a mechanic send a vehicle to the meintenance garage? 4. Read for specific information: Have SS read the questions and possible answers. Allow SS to refer to the checklist if necessary. Have students complete the activity individually then check the asnwers as a class. 5. Working with the subject specific vocabulary: SS complete the exercise indivdually. SS compare their answers with a classmate’s. Check the answers as a class.
