NAME: Gwyneth Beñas

COURSE YR. & SECTION: BSINFOTECH 3-A
ASSIGNMENT # 2.
LEARNING TOPIC: ETHICS AND ETHICAL ANALYSIS

1. Choose three real-life scenarios that raise ethical questions or dilemmas. These scenarios should be distinct and
diverse, allowing for the application of different ethical theories that were presented during your first assignment.
Real-life scenarios that raise ethical questions or dilemmas:
- A thief stoles a motorcycle to provide for the needs of his family.
- A student cheats on her exam just to maintain her scholarship.
- The barangay organized a program with higher-ranking government officials to distribute supplies such as rice, canned
products, and noodles. However, some of the supplies that were supposed to be distributed to the locals were detained
and withheld.

2. Briefly describe each scenario, providing context, parties involved, and the central moral question.
- In the first real-life scenario these are more likely to be relevant due to the rising poverty issues in the country. They
believe that stealing is the only way to meet their basic needs to survive daily. The ethical theories applied in this case
are Consequentialism, Utilitarianism, and Virtue Ethics. In this scenario, Consequentialism is involved since the act of
stealing produced a positive outcome wherein he stole so that he could provide for the needs of this family. Also,
Utilitarianism is applied since his stealing benefits most of his family. Lastly, stealing was practiced since he lived a life
of poverty as a child, and his family's way of living was to steal.

- In the second real-life scenario, there are several factors why students cheat on their quizzes and exams, and one
factor is the academic expectation from their family, pressure to maintain achievement, scholarship, etc. The ethical
theories applied in this case are Ethical Egoism and Consequentialism. In this scenario, Ethical Egoism is involved
since when students cheat, they could benefit themselves from it. Consequentialism is also involved since the act of
cheating during exams caused a positive outcome in which she can maintain her scholarship and her honor list.

- In the third real-life scenario, corruption in supply chains is more likely to happen during the distribution of supplies in
every barangay since many authorities have the power to manage the amount of supplies given to every resident. The
ethical theories applied in this scenario are Deontology, Ethical Egoism, and Consequentialism. In this case,
Deontology is involved since the barangay authorities' duty and obligation is to follow the higher official mandate, that
is, to distribute the supplies to every resident. Also, Ethical Egoism is applied in this scenario since the withheld and
detained supplies could benefit every barangay official since they only think of themselves for their own benefit. Lastly,
Consequentialism is also applied in this case since it involves lying and stealing, which produces positive outcomes.
