GP1: Multiplication, Division, Area and Perimeter

Date: Name:

Goal – To be able to multiply and divide numbers using a formal written method or counting squares to find
the area and perimeter of rectangular or irregular shapes.
Role – You are an interior designer.
Audience – Your team who will execute your orders to do the job
Situation – You are designing a house for your client. You have to work with your team to execute and make
the design as per your client’s requirements.

Situation 1- You have to buy materials for making the house. At first you buy more than you need. You buy 8
pieces of glass that cost 190 baht each. You also buy 15 pieces of wood that cost 55 baht each.
a) What is the total cost of glass?

b) What is the total cost of wood?

c) The person at the woodshop says the cost per piece of wood is 65 baht. What is the new value of
wood? Is this more or less than the first wood value?

Situation 2 – One long piece of wood of 1735 cm has to be cut to make the length of 6 window panes.

a) What will be the length of one pane? Show your calculation

b) Is there any wood extra? Explain you answer.

Situation 3- The frame of a rectangular window is to be made. If the length and the width are 8 m and 6 m
respectively.

a) Draw what the window must look like.

b) Find the length of the frame that is needed for 1 window

c) What would be the total length of frame needed for 6 windows? Explain
Situation 4 – If we are looking for a shape of glass inside the frame to be an irregular shape like below

Where 1 square = 1 cm2

a) What is the estimated squares you can count on the shape?

b) Then, what is the estimated glass we need if 1 square= 1 cm2? Is this area or perimeter?

c) How much glass would we need if 1 square = 2 cm2?
