Week No. 1 Day 1 Duration 1 HOUR

PERFORMANCE STANDARD The learners should be able to employ appropriate techniques using the compound
microscope to gather data about very small objects.
I.OBJECTIVE/S: Identify parts of the microscope and their functions.
Week 1 S7LT-IIa-1
II. SUBJECT MATTER
a. Topic The Microscope
b. References:
 MELC, p. 385
 CO_Q2_Science 7_Module 1

c. Materials: Learning modules, illustrations, chalk, laptop

d. Subject Integration: English, Mathematics
e. Values Integration: Appreciation of microorganisms seen under microscope
III.PROCEDURE
A. Priming Activities: Begin with classroom routine:
a. Prayer
b. Reminder of the classroom health and safety protocols
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Quick “kumustahan”

1. Review What are the different living organisms you can see?
How are we going to observe the smallest organisms?
2. Motivation:  The students will answer the pretest found in the module with a twist.
B. Lesson Proper:
 Activity: The students will be grouped into six. They are going to read the paragraph provided in
them and must be able to trace the history of the microscope by copying and filling in the
boxes.
 Analysis: Guide Questions:
 What is the timeline of the development of the microscope?
 Who were the scientists who contributed in the invention of the microscope?
 What is the importance of their contribution in the science field?

 Abstraction:  What is a microscope?

 What are the different parts of the microscope?
 How are you going to describe its function?

 Application: The students will play “Lucky Me”. Those students that will be chosen to answer will
name each part of the microscope.

IV.ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION: Directions: Read each item carefully. Write only the letter of the correct answer for each
question.

2. Who uses the microscope with only one lens to observe insects and other specimens?
A. Robert Hooke B. Richard Zsigmondy
C. Hans & Zacharias Janssen D. Anton van Leeuwenhoek
3. Who invented the ultra- microscope which allows the observation of specimens beyond
the wavelength of light?
A. Robert Hooke B. Richard Zsigmondy
C. Anton van Leeuwenhoek D. Hans & Zacharias Janssen
4. Which part will you adjust if the object you are observing under the HPO is NOT clear?
A. Coarse adjustment B. Inclination joint
C. fine adjustment D. Diaphragm
5. Which of the following describes the function of the mirror?
A. It facilitates the changing of the objectives.
B. It reflects light up to the diaphragm and to the specimen to be observed.
C. It allows one to tilt the microscope, so viewing is possible while seated.
D. Regulates the amount of light reflected to the object to be viewed.
V. AGREEMENT/ASSIGNMENT: The students will draw the microscope on a bond paper with their parts.
