Location: Mt. Pelée, Arrondissement of Saint-
Pierre, Martinique, Caribbean Island

Type : PELEAN ERUPTION


On the Caribbean island of Martinique, Mt. Pelée
erupted, killing more than 30,000 people in the city of St.
Pierre within minutes. It was a devastating event, notable
as the worst volcanic disaster of the 20th century.

ST. HELENS 1980
Location: Mt. St. Helens, Skamania County,
Washington, United States

Type : PLINIAN ERUPTION


The 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption was the most destructive in U.S.
history. Fifty-seven people died, and thousands of animals were killed,
according to USGS. More than 200 homes were destroyed, and more
than 185 miles of roads and 15 miles of railways were damaged

Location: Parícutin Volcano, Michoacán, Tancítaro
Peak, Mexico

Type : VULCANIAN ERUPTION


Paricutín began to erupt in an open field. The fire, lava,
and ashes destroyed and buried two villages and hundreds
of homes. In the first year, the volcano’s cone had risen
1,475 feet from the base 7,480 feet and had buried the
village of Paricutín.
