Assign the following roles in your group:
Facilitator: _____________________ Checker: __________________________
Recorder: ______________________ Timer: _____________________________
Reporter: ______________________ Materials Manager: _______________

Objective: Identify the parts and functions of each part of the human respiratory system.

Procedure:

1. Observe the pictures showing the different parts of the respiratory system.
2. Label each part by matching the drawing to its corresponding definition.
3. Draw and write your answer on your manila paper.
• Nose/Nostrils: External Openings where air enters
and is filtered

• Nasal Cavity: connected to mouth by a hard and

soft palate, serve as channel for airflow through the
nose in which the air is warmed, cleaned, and
moistened.

• Pharynx: Common passageway for food and air, but

not at the same time.

• Epiglottis: a valve-like structure that shuts when

swallowing food; prevents the foods from entering the
trachea

• Larynx: Voice box for animal, controls breathing,

keeps objects out of lungs; houses the vocal cords

• Trachea: wind pipe, consists of cartilage rings,

similar to vacuum cleaner hose; a hollow tube that
serves as passageway of air into the lungs

• Bronchi: Two tubes that connect trachea to each

side of the lungs

• Bronchioles: the finer subdivisions of the bronchi;

hair-like tubes that connects to the alveoli

• Alveoli: also called the airsacs; where the exchange

of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place

• Diaphragm: sheet of muscle located beneath the

lungs that separates the chest cavity from the
abdominal cavity.

• Lungs: Two, elastic, spongy material that expand

when filled with air

• Pleural cavity: thin fluid-filled space between the

lungs and the ribcage

2. What do you think is the most important part of the respiratory system? Justify your
