Abstract of COMPRESSIBLE-WASHER-TYPE DIRECT TENSION

ASTM F959M INDICATORS FOR USE WITH STRUCTURAL

STRUCTURAL
1997 BOLTING
FASTENERS [METRIC]

IFI NOTES:

1. ASTM F959M is B specification developed through the procedures

of ASTM. F959M;s under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F·16.

2. This abstract presents the chemical, performance, and dimensional

requirements for metric compressible-washer-type direct tension
indicators. It omits those requirements dealing with quality assur-
ance and inspection, and a listing of referenced documents. For the
omitted information, refer to the complete F959M.

3. F959M washers are designed specifically for use with A325M and
A490M high-strength structural bolts. When properly installed with
a high-strength structural bolt, the washer provides visual evidence
that the bolt has been sufficiently tightened to achieve the desired
minimum bolt tension.

4. The paragraph numbers throughout this abstract are those of the

complete ASTM F959M-97. Minor editorial changes have been made

I
to improve clarity and reader understanding. None affects techni-
ca/ content.

5. ASTM F959M-97 is abstracted with permission from the Annual Book

of ASTM Standards, copyright American Society for Testing and
Materia/s, 100 Barr Harbor Drive, West Conshohocken, PA 19428,
