Abstraction- What is It:
Commercials are the powerful tool used for creating and
shaping people’s opinions. Their structure is simplified in
order to be understood by viewers. Let us determine the
kinds of advertisements.
1. Point of View is a specific or stated
manner of consideration, an attitude how
one sees or thinks of something.
2. Stereotype is a thought that can be adopted about specific
types of individuals or certain ways of doing things. These
thoughts or beliefs may or may not accurately reflect reality.
There are also some common stereotypes of men and women,
such as:
Men are strong and do all the work.
Men are the "backbone."
Women aren't as smart as a man.
Women can’t do as good of a job as a man.
Guys are messy and unclean.
Men who spend too much time on the
computer or read are geeks.
3. Propaganda is a form of biased communication aimed at
promoting or demoting certain views, perceptions or
agendas.The purpose of propaganda is to benefit or
help the sponsor.7 Types of Propaganda
Card Stacking, Testimonial, glittering generalities, transfer,
plain folks, band wagon, name calling

television:
1. Do not make noise.
2. Pay attention to what you are watching.

A. Have you ever watched advertisements?
Have you ever been persuaded by advertisement to buy their
products?Let us watch some of the TV Commercial
we are familiar with.After watching the video clips, write the
ideas inside the TV that made you buy the product.
Commercial 1: Finally Ariel, Ariel
Commercial 2: Makulay ang Buhay sa Sinabawang Gulay!
Did you find interest of buying the product after watching the
TV commercial? On what part of the TV commercial
persuaded you? Perfect, it seems that you already have the
whole grasp of our topic for today. Now, we will try to put
this into practice.

B. The class will be divided into four. Each group should give
new name of the product to endorse. A representative from
each group must explain the ideas used to influence the
viewers.
Group 1: Make a commercial inspired by stereotypes. Then
have the leader to explain why their commercial inspired by
stereotypes.
Group 2: Present a drama about the importance of brushing
teeth using a brand toothpaste. Have the leader explain the
presentation.

Give me a number.
Using ‘Give me a number’ selection, selected student will
identify what type of propaganda is being implied based on
what the teacher will show on the flash cards.

Evaluation:
Classify the Advertisements as whether stereotypes, point of
view or propagandas.

1. Girls are shown as babysitters nursing dolls or cleaning


house with a
pink cleaning kit, whereas boys do sports or play computer
games
2. “This is the best cavity-fighting toothpaste out there.”
3. An ad will show a bloody accident then remind people to
wear their seatbelts.
4. “I felt like I was getting drowned with shame and
disgrace.”
5. Name calling - An example of name calling would be: "My
opponent is an alcoholic

NOTE: Explain the home-based activities that they need to


accomplish. Remind the learners who need remediation to
attend the Learning remediation and intervention program
after class.
