EXPERIMENT 4: AC-AC Converter

AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT

1. Understanding the construction and the operation of a Ac-Ac converter.

2. Simulate ac-ac converter on matlab/simulink

THEORY

AC converter is a kind of static converter that converts an AC to another AC level without changing
the frequency. AC converters are widely used to control average load voltage from a fixed ac source.
Application areas of actoac converters are industrial heating, light dimming, AC motor speed control.
There are two ways to operate these converters: 1.on-off control & phase angle control. They are
classified in terms of circuit topology as single phase controllers & three phase controllers. Each
circuit topology could be operate as unidirectional (haf_wave) controller and bidirectional
(full_wave) controller.

Homework
Now, it is your turn, create a single phase actoac converter with balanced RL loads.
Show your works (do not forget to show parameters you entered) and results.

Voltage = 220 V (frequency = 50 Hz)

Resistance = 5 ohm

Inductance = 47 10^-3 F

Firing angle for thristor = π/3
