1.0 PURPOSE

To define the general sequence of events, interfaces and responsibilities related to the installation of Indoor/outdoor
lighting and small power system.

2.0 SCOPE

This document explains the procedure for installation of indoor/outdoor lighting and small power system under.

4.2 DEFINITIONS

Company : This shall mean Gulf for building & Construction or it’s nominated representative

Consultant : Shall refer to hill international.

Contractor : This shall mean Elsewedy utilities

5.0 ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

5.1 Project Manager

He shall be responsible for overall execution, administration, monitoring and control of the project as per the
contractual requirements including but not limited to:

 Managing all interfaces with Client and RAY Management.

 Assess manpower, equipment and other resources required to achieve targets set and co-ordinate with

RAY Management for obtaining necessary resources for the project and deploy as required

 Coordinating for all the procurement and subcontracting activities related to the project.

 Monitor the actual progress of the work against planned program.

 Analyze deviation or change of contract scope in coordination with Discipline Engineers.

 Identify Training needs and Coordinate for fulfilling the Training Requirements.

5.2 Project Engineer

He shall be overall responsible for safe execution of the complete activity including, but not limited to:

 Organizing tools and equipment required to the work site

 Assigning work crew.

 Sequence of activities to be carried out for the work as per this work procedure

 Stage Inspection & Surveillance.

 Stage Inspection & Surveillance.

 Ensure all safety Regulations are followed as applicable.

 Contract specific requirements for installation and testing of earthing system, if any specified shall be

identified and the requirements of such specification shall prevail in addition to the non-conflicting

requirements of this procedure

5.3 Contractor Engineer

 Toolbox talks with the concerned work force prior to start of the work is a mandatory requirement.

 Ensure that relevant permits applied and obtained prior to the commencement of work.

 Assigning a competent work crew.

 Organizing tools and equipment required to the work site.

 Ensure all PPEs are available with all the workers involved in the work.

 Inspection of all works at every stage.

 Ensuring the sufficient First Aiders and Fire Wardens are available with the crew.

 Ensure all Safety Regulations are followed as applicable

6.0 ASSOCIATED REQUIREMENTS

6.1 HSE Requirements

 Ensure toolbox talks are conducted as per activity risk assessment.

 Permit to work system shall be followed with due care wherever applicable.

 Ensure all PPEs are available with all the workers involved in the earthing related works

 All required equipment and tools should be checked before start of work for suitability and integrity.

 Ensure that the work is done under the supervision of Supervisor I Engineer.

 All necessary tools are to be taken along once and for all till the completion of the work.

 Adequate drinking water should be provided to the work force.

 Incidents/Accidents if any shall be reported to concerned authorities in the prescribed written format.

6.2 Equipment’s, Tools, and Measuring Instruments:

7 PROCEDUR

7.1 Material receipt, storage & preservation

 All materials such as DBs, light fittings, plugs, sockets, circuit breakers and general accessories shall be

inspected on receipt for any mechanical damages, and its compliance with project specifications and

approved drawings.

 Ensure the size, type of conduit; boxes and accessories supplied are as per the project requirement; PVC

 conduits are heavy gauge.

 PVC Conduits shall be high impact rigid heavy gauge tube complying with IEC 61386.

 Flexible Cables and cords shall be of approved type, and shall comply with project specifications

 Where storage on site for luminaries prior to installation is required, adequate provision for protection

from ingress of water and dust, together with mechanical protection, shall be provided.

7.2 Installation of GI I PVC conduit & boxes

 Ensure approved drawings are available at site prior to start the work.

 PVC conduits shall be installed as concealed conduits inside buildings.

 Conduits of diameter not less than 20 mm and of wall thickness 1.80 mm minimum thickness shall be

used.

 Bends shall be made without heating the conduits and by using approved type of bending machine.

 All conduits embedded in the walls shall be fully recessed to permit a minimum thickness of 15 mm

plaster or other finish to be obtained.

 Ensure all joints in the PVC conduit and accessories are glued by solvent welding process in accordance

with manufacture instruction.

 PVC conduit shall be protected from weather and from mechanical damages during installation.

 Care shall be taken to prevent ingress of plaster, cement etc in conduits and in boxes during the progress

of installation.

 Install draw-in boxes in straight conduit routes at not more than 10 metre intervals, and where conduits

are run from point to point with not more than two right-angle bends, install draw-in boxes at intervals

of not more than 8 meters.

 All conduit boxes shall be installed in accessible area following completion of the building.

 GI conduit shall be cleaned and free from swarf and oil prior to installation.

 Ensure proper bend, elbows, tees, coupling, adaptors etc are used in during installation.

 Conduits installed on surface (if any) shall be neat and as unobtrusive as possible, parallel to general

building lines when run on the surface of walls and ceilings.

 GI conduits installed on surface (if any) shall be supported by saddles at a maximum spacing of

1500mm.

 Make sure the level and height of back boxes for switches and socket outlets are uniform and comply

with standards.

 Spacing of conduit runs from other services shall be to the following minimum values: ~ Cold Water 50

mm.

Hot water 250 mm

Y Air ducts 20 mm

7.3 Installation of Switches Socket outlets, Lighting fixtures etc.

 Diffuser, glass ware and louver for luminaries shall be cleaned prior to installation.

 Ensure the switches installed substation area are as per project specification and OES standards.

 Earthing and bonding shall be done for all switches, lighting fixtures etc.

 Ensure that wire joints are done in luminaries /switches only.

 Size of the cables used for small power system shall not be less than 4 mm'.

 All lighting equipment’s, socket, switches etc shall be identified with proper tags.

 All sockets and spur outlets shall be mounted at heights given in the schedules or on the layout

drawings, using the method of fixing stated.

 Small power outlets shall be earthed and bonded in accordance with layout drawing

 Luminaries shall be mounted at heights given in the schedules or on the layout drawings, using the

method of fixing stated.

 Installation shall be in accordance with individual Manufacturer's instructions.

 Final connection to all suspended light fittings shall be with heat resistant flexible cable termination in

the ceiling.

 All outdoor light fittings shall be weatherproof.

 Fixtures for all outdoor/semi-outdoor installation shall be of weatherproof design with degree of

protection of at least IP67 and indoor degree of protection of at least IP6X.

 All outdoor lighting pole foundation blocks shall be checked prior to placing of poles, to ensure that

when poles are erected, they are in accordance with the dimensions given on the layout drawings, and

that the locations of cable entries are in correct positions relative to the incoming cable ducts.

 Outdoor lighting poles shall be erected to line and level and shall be perfectly plumb on completion of

erection.

 Cables shall be laid and terminated as per the approved drawings, and as per manufacturer instructions.

 All light fittings shall be earthed and shall be conned to main earth grid as per the approved earthing

drawings.

7 .4 Emergency lighting system

 Check all luminaries and other emergency lighting equipment are in a good condition, all lamps and light

controllers are clean and undamaged.

 Emergency hand lamps shall be provided in switchgear rooms, control room, L V AC/DC rooms and Gate

Room if available as a minimum.

 Obtain DC supplies for emergency lighting from the DC distribution board via an emergency lighting

 contactor in the event of failure of AC supplies.

 Ensure all emergency lights and escape route lights are installed properly and termination completed.

 Escape route and exit lighting shall be located at each exit door and emergency exit doors.

 The emergency fittings mounted near the escape doors shall have exit sign written both in Arabic and

English.

7.5 Installation of Distribution Boards

 Ensured that the wall to which a distribution board is to be fixed is flat so that no undue distortion of the

casing takes place.

 Distribution boards shall be located in accordance with the approved drawings and shall be freely

accessible.

 Correct diameter and length of fixing bolts and/or screws shall be used for installing, and ensure correct

alignment with holes through slabs, ducts, conduits and trunking.

 Ensure correct size of cable glands and lugs are used, and connections are in accordance with the

approved drawings.

 Earthing of the Distribution boards shall be done in accordance with approved drawings.

 Un-used holes in the junction boxes, trunking outlet boxes etc. shall be blanked-off by means of stopping

plugs.

 All Distribution Boards and panels shall be identified with tag number.

7.6 Testing of Lighting & Small Power System

 Test & Record continuity and Insulation resistance of cables using calibrated Multi-meter and 1000V

 insulation Tester.

 Test and record insulation test of main power cable.

 Checking the operation of all light switches, socket, lights etc.

 Check polarity, earthing and output voltages of socket outlets to ensure conformance with specifications.

 Check ELCBs for proper tripping applying specified tripping current.

 Operation checks of emergency lighting system.

 Check proper functioning of Photo electric cells I Timers.

 Record the illumination level of lighting system and compare with specified illumination level in project

specifications. (Specification vol 2 of 7, section 12.1 Schedule A)

 Check operation of all emergency lighting equipment by simulating a failure of the normal lighting

supply; also check that, upon restoring the mains supply, supply healthy indicators are illuminated in all

emergency lights.
