Lets discuss the using of the


plural form of regular nouns.
We will define first the noun.

NOUNS is the name of a


person, place, or thing. A
noun has a singular form and
plural form. The plural form
of most regular nouns is
formed by adding -s or -es to
their singular form.

Study the pluralization rules:

1. Add -s to the singular


form of most nouns.
Examples:
Oppressor – oppressors
Generation – generations
2. If a noun ends in -f or
-fe, change f to v and
add -s or -es.
Examples:
Elf – elves
Leaf – leaves
Some exceptions are:
Roof – roofs
Chief – chiefs
3. If a noun ends in -y
after a consonant,
change y to I and add
-s or -es.
Examples:
City – cities
Country – countries
4. If a noun ends in -y
after a vowel, simply
add -s to the singular
form.
Examples:
Toy – toys
Valley – valleys
5. Add -es to some
nouns ending in o
after a consonant.
Examples:
Hero – heroes
Echo – echoes
6. Simply add -s to other
nouns ending in o
after a vowel.
Examples;
Radio – radios
Igloo – igloos
