The Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor is for use by medical professionals or at home and is a noninvasive blood pressure measurement system intended to measure the
diastolic and systolic blood pressures and pulse rate of an adult individual by using a non-invasive technique in which an inflatable cuff is wrapped around the upper arm. The
monitor measures systolic, diastolic pressure, and pulse rate on the principle of oscillometric on inflation. The oscillometric method detects volume displacements within the
artery and senses pressure variations within the blood pressure cuff during inflation. The device is easy to use since patients simply sit down, place their hands inside the cuff and
press the start button. This helps eliminate the hesitation of the wrong placement on the upper hand when wearing the typical cuff.

Project 8: Tissue Crushing Machine

1. Person(s) in charge:

Name: Dr. Võ Văn Tới

Email: vvtoi@hcmiu.edu.vn

2. Project Description:

The very first step of the PCR is DNA extraction which required to collect and homogenize each shrimp tissue sample into small pieces by crushing them. A traditional method

that the laboratory technicians have been used is that they use hand to hold a disposable pellet pestle, then crush the shrimp tissue sample which is in an Eppendorf tube. This is

not tedious but time consuming, especially with a huge number of shrimps needed to be tested, the technicians have been spent a lot of time on grinding many shrimp samples

tube by tube.

Nowadays, the technicians use the crushing sticks or pellet pestles by their hand to crush the shrimp tissue one by one and this is time wasting and lack of productivity. In order

to solve this problem, the technicians need a device that would be time saving and the products of sample after crushing also have to be more effective.

The goal of this project is a design and fabrication of a device that not only can replace the technician’s hand but also can grind many shrimp sample tubes at one time with

different speed until they are completely mashed.

features and requirements may be needed.

Project 18: Dip Coating Device

1. Person(s) in charge:

Name: Dr. Trần Lê Giang

Email: tlgiang@hcmiu.edu.vn
2. Project Description:

Dip coating is a common method for coating microneedles with drugs, which can be used for applications such as vaccination or drug delivery. The dip coating

device typically consists of a reservoir for the drug solution and a holder for the microneedles. The microneedles are dipped into the drug solution, and then lifted out to allow

the excess solution to drain off. The process can be repeated several times to build up the desired drug coating thickness on the microneedles.

The design of the dip coating device will depend on the specific application and the size and shape of the microneedles being coated. It is important to ensure that

the drug coating is uniform and that the microneedles are not damaged or clogged during the coating process.
Overall, designing an infusion pump for biomedical applications could be a challenging and rewarding capstone design project in biomedical engineering, with the

potential to make a significant impact on patient care.

3. Technical specification and Requirements:
