Some equipment used for comparison, rather than measurement need not be calibrated, only visually checked.
Where calibration is required, this may be completed internally or by an approved external supplier.

4 & 5.
Calibration status shall be stated on the Calibration Register, identifying whether the equipment is within calibration or out of calibration (lapsed, quarantined).
Calibration sticker to be applied onto the equipment or in some cases the box (ie micrometer sets).

Each instrument will have a unique number. Calibration period will be determined based on its usage, importance and historical performance.

7.
If calibrated externally a purchase order will be raised using suppliers who are included in the Approved Suppliers List. All external companies/ laboratories shall have their
current certificate of approvals retained.
Acceptance criteria to be stated on request for quotations and Purchase Orders to suppliers following Procedure AV-OP-04 Purchasing.

8.
Internal calibration shall be carried out by competent personnel following company calibration instructions.
All calibration check readings to be documented.

10.
Evidence of review on certificate shall be the signature of relevant person.

11.
The issue and return of calibrated equipment shall be documented.

17.
If an instrument fails and is repaired; then this should appear on the certificate, and then the result after adjustment and/or repair.

Notes
A) Calibration of equipment to be in accordance to traceable international or national measurement standards.
B) Non-company owned measuring equipment if used for measuring, will be verified & documented on Calibration Register if suitable.
Equipment shall remain on the Calibration Register for its hire duration and shaded out when off-hired so to retain record of existence. Certificate to be retained in
Calibration folder.
C) If a piece of equipment is considered suspect at any time, then it should be reported to the Technical Manager and withdrawn from use immediately.
D) If a piece of equipment fails calibration, then the Station’s Technical Manager/ Workshop Manager will be involved to assess any possible impact on materials already
supplied, and agree suitable action.
E) The company may hold Maintenance Agreements with approved suppliers, for key pieces of equipment.
F) Non-designated tapes, rules and squares are visually checked only.
G) Calibration equipment to be handled with care, stored within suitable allocated locations and maintained without cause of damage or deterioration.
