IV. PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous lesson or Directions: Identify whether the following problems are looking
presenting the new lesson for the percentage, rate or base. Then, solve for the unknown.
1. 85% of P78.00 is what amount? __________
2. 2. 45% of 70 is what number? __________
3. 3. 7 is 35% of what number? __________
4. 4. 110% of what amount is P660.00? __________
5. 5. P120.00 is 180% of what amount? __________
B. Establishing a purpose for the How much money do you spend in school every day?
lesson Do you save some of it for future use?
Why did you do it? Share your experience.
Let the pupils realize the importance of being thrifty.
C. Presenting Finding Percentage, Rate, and Base
Examples/Instances of new
Mark’s daily allowance is P40.00. He spends P12.00 for snacks.
lesson
This is 30% of his daily allowance.
Identify which information represents the percentage, the rate,
and the base.
The situation above can also be described as:
30% of 40 is 12 → 30% x 40 =12 ↓
Rate (R) x Base (B) =
Percentage (P)
In this case, we can now generate formula for finding
the percentage (P), the rate(R), and the base (B).

The Techan’s triangle above can help you remember

the three formulas. To find percentage (P) cover P; since R and
B are next to each other, it means multiplication. To find the
base(B), cover the B; since P is over R, it means division. And
to find rate(R), cover R; since P is over B, it means division.
D. Discussing new concepts and Case#1: Finding the percentage or percent in a given
practicing new skills #1 problem.
Finding the Percentage
Example: Find 75% of 80.
Solution: We can solve the problem in two ways.
A. Using Decimal B. Using Proportion
75% of 80 = n Rate = Percentage
↓ ↓↓ ↓ Base
0.75 x 80 =n 75 = n
↓ 60 = n 100 80
Think: 75%= 75/100
Change the rate to decimal 100n = 6000
100n = 6000
100 100
Answer: 75% of 80 is 60. n = 60

E. Discussing new concepts and Case#2: Finding the Rate (R)

practicing new skills #2 Example: 36 is what percent of 60?
Solution:
Think: n% of 60 = 36
↓ ↓ ↓
rate base percentage
Solution: We can solve the problem in two ways.
A. Using Fraction B. Using a Proportion
n% of 60 = 36 Rate = Percentage
↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ Base
n x 60 = 36 n = 36
100 100 60
60n = 36
100
60n = 36 x 100
60n = 3,600
60n = 3,600
60 60
n = 60
Answer: 36 is 60% of 60.
F. Discussing new concepts and Case#3: Finding the Base (B)
practicing new skills #3 Example: 40% of a number is 240. What is the number?
Solution:
Think: 40% of n = 240
↓ ↓ ↓
rate base percentage
Solution: We can solve the problem in two ways
A. Using Decimal B. Using a Proportion
40% of n = 240 Rate = Percentage
↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ Base
0.4 x n = 240 40 = 240
0.4n = 240
0.4n = 240
0.4 0.4
n = 600
Answer: 40% of 600 is 240.
G. Developing mastery Independent Activity 1
(Leads to Formative Assessment)
Find the percentage of the following.
1. 10% 0f 90 = n
0.10 x 90 = ______________

2. 21% 0f Ҏ1,800 = n

0.21 x Ҏ1,800 = ______________

H. Finding practical Independent Assessment 1
applications of concepts and
skills in daily living Find the rate of the following.
1. _________% of 120 is 24
2. 60 is ___________% of 120
Find the base.
3. 6% of what number is 15? __________
4. 25% of ________ is 3.

Before the group activity begins. Let the learners know and be
reminded about the things or standard they need to do.

GROUP ACTIVITY
Direction: Complete the table by writing the missing
percentage, rate or base.

PERCENTAGE RATE BASE

1. 20% 15
2. 4 80
3. 3 25%
4. 12% 75
5. 30 300

I. Making generalizations and Remember these formulas:

abstractions about the lesson Formulas for finding the Percentage (P), Rate(R), and Base(B):

Rate (R) = Percentage(P) Base(B)

Base(B)= Percentage(P) Rate (R)

Percentage(P) = Base(B) x Rate (R)

J. Evaluating Learning Solve for the rate, percentage and base of each word
problem.
