Grade: 10 Subject: Science

Quarter: 1st Week No: 3 Day 3

I. OBECTIVES
Content Standard the relationship among the locations of volcanoes,
earthquake epicenters and mountain ranges
Performance Standard demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness
during earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions
Learning Competency describe the different types of plate boundaries
(S10ES-Ia-j-36.2)
Knowledge compare the three types of convergent boundaries;
Skills demonstrate understanding of the three types of
convergent boundaries;
Attitude propose precautionary measures to lessen risk effects of some
geological hazards

c. Review
Let students recall the lesson about the Two
Continental Plates Converging

Question:
What events or features occur when two continental
plates collide with each other?

Ans: (When two continental plates converge, a collision

zone is formed. Unlike the other two types of convergent
boundaries, subduction ceases for this particular type of
convergence. There will be earthquakes and mountain
ranges are formed).

B. Motivation Let students work with a partner. To maximize time, it is
suggested that their partners would be their own
seatmates.

Crossword Puzzle
Direction: Accomplish the cross-word puzzle through the
help of the given clues.

Down
1.one plate moves under another
2.shaking of the surface of the earth
4.plate
5.collision of lithospheric plates
6. mountain range

Across
3.deepest part of the ocean
7.magma
8.harbo wave

C. Activity Let students watch the video entitled “Convergent Boundaries”
from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-8MjqwZ6Og&t=16s

Task: After watching the video, group students into 4

groups, and let them demosntrate their understanding on
the three types of convergent boundary given the picture
below:

D. Analysis Question: Unlike the other two convergence, why are there
no volcanoes or volcanic arcs formed when two
continental plates collide?

Ans: (No volcanoes or volcanic arcs formed when two

continental plates collide because subduction ceases in
this type of convergence).

E. Abstraction Comparing and Contrasting
Group learners into 4 groups and let them accomplish the
given Venn Diagram. Afterwards, let each group present
their answers to the class using manila papers/cartolinas.

Direction: Draw and complete the Venn Diagram. Read

each phrase carefully and write the corresponding number
to its right place.

1. volcanoes/volcanic arcs are

formed
2. trenches/submarine valleys
occur
3. earthquakes are present
4. mountain ranges are formed
5. tsunamis
6. subduction takes place

F. Application Studying plate boundaries is important because along
these boundaries deformation of the lithosphere is
happening. How do these geologic events make great
impact not on the environment and on us?
G. Practical Applications of
Concepts and Skills in Let students complete this table:
Daily Living
Geological Yes/No If yes, what
Events/hazards precautionary
measures
would you
consider to
lessen its risk
effects?
Tsunami
Volcanic eruptions
Earthquakes

H. Generalization Why are there no volcanic arcs in the convergence of two

continental plates?
Ans: (No volcanic arcs formed in this type of
convergence because the subducti0on process
ceases in this type. Mountain ranges are formed
instead).

What are the common features/events that occur in

oceanic-oceanic and continental-oceanic convergence?

Ans: The common features/events that occur in

oceanic-oceanic and continental-oceanic
convergence are earthquakes, subduction,
volcanic arcs and trenches. However, tsunami
would like happen in the convergence of two
oceanic plates.

I. Evaluation Direction: Group geological features/events found inside

the box according to its corresponding type of
convergence.

*Note: Some words may be answered repeatedly.
