I. OBJECTIVES

Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of the

relationship among the locations of volcanoes,
earthquake epicenters and mountain ranges
Performance Standard Demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness
during earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions
Learning Competency describe the different types of plate boundaries
(S10ES-Ia-j-36.2)
identify the geologic events or features resulting from the
convergence of two continental plates;
sketch a diagram on events or features in the collision of
two continental plates;

presenting the new lesson b. Checking of attendance
c. Review
Let students recall subduction process, specifically
on the Convergence of Two Oceanic Plates
Question:
As the continental and oceanic plates continue to
grind against each other, what geologic events could
take place?

B. Establishing a purpose for Picture Prompt

the lesson Show pictures of Mt. Apo and Mt. Everest. For
interactive learning, let them guess or you may give
some trivia about the two mountains.
DAILY LESSON LOG (Week Four Day Three)

Question:
1. What is the highest peak in the Philippines?
2. How about the highest mountain in the world?
3. Do you have any idea how tall Mount Everest is?
4. How do you think most of the tall mountains of
the world are formed?
C. Presenting examples/ Group students into 4 groups and let them do Activity 3:
instances of the new lesson Head-On Collision, Part C: Two Continental Plates
Converging

Questions:

1. What happened to the strips of clay as they were

pushed from opposite ends?
2. If the strips of clay represent the Earth’s lithosphere,
what do you think is formed in the lithosphere?
3. What other geologic event could take place with this
type of plate movement aside from your answer in
Q25?

D. Discussing new concepts and In terms of the consequences on the Earth’s lithosphere,
practicing new skills how will you differentiate this type of convergent plate
boundary with the other two?

E. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills #2

In the subduction of two continental plates, will

subduction take place?

Key Point:

When two continental plates meet head-on, neither is

subducted. Instead, the crust tends to buckle and be
pushed upward causing formation of mountain ranges
and other highlands.

F. Developing mastery (leads to Let students watch the following short clips below:
formative assessment) “Formation of Himalayas HD” (1:14) with link

Guide Questions:

1. When two continental plates converge, a collision zone is

formed. Is it possible for trenches and volcanoes to occur?

G. Practical Applications of Slogan-making Contest

Concepts and Skills in Daily
Living In the convergence of two continental plates, mountain
ranges occur. In this collision, subduction ceases,
however, minimal earthquakes still occur. It is known
that earthquakes cause damages to living.

Task: Create a poster slogan about raising earthquake

hazards and safety.

See attached rubrics.

H. Generalization Sketching/Diagramming

Task: Let students sketch a diagram on events or

features in the collision of two continental plates. Under
their sketch, let them complete the sentence below:

Mountain ranges are formed because

the convergence of two continental plates.
