Folk Dance
Mechanics and Rules of the Contest
1. The dance must be taken from the published Philippine Folk Dance authored by known
dance-researcher-writer published in the book listed below the following are the specific
titles of the books.
a. Philippine Folk Dance, Volume 1-6, by Francisca R. Aquino
b. Philippine National Dance by Francisca R. Tolentino
c. Visayan Folk Dance, volume 1-3, by Lebertad Fajardo
d. Pangasinan Folk Dance by Jovita Sison Friese
e. Sayaw: Dance of the Philippine Island, Volume 1-7 by the Philippine Folk Dance Society
f. Samr Folk Dance by Juan Miel
g. Handumanan by Jose balcena
h. Philippine Folk Dance and Song by the Bureau of Public Schools 1965
2. The dance selected must be only one straight dance, No combination of dances is allowed.
3. In dances where the author does not specify or describe the entrance and/or exit, the
trainer may arrange one; however; it must not be longer than dance itself and should not
exceed one minute.
4. The dance accompaniment is not allowed.
5. Dancers should be composed of a minimum of (3) pairs and a maximum of (6) pairs.
6. Two photocopy of the literature of the dance shall be submitted to the organizer and the
one in-charge to the contest.
7. The decision of the judge is final.

Essay Writing
1. The board of judges will provide the topics of the essay at the venue of
comprehension.
2. The essay shall be written in English in not less than 600 words but not more than
800 words.
Corresponding deduction will be given to entries that did not reach the minimum
number of words and exceed to the maximum number of words.
Deduction of 5 points will be impose.
3. The contestant shall be given (1) hour to develop composition.
4. The contestant shall be provided with writing paper, a pen and their corresponding
number.
5. The contestant will use their real name on their paper for the verification of the
winners later.
6. No books materials, dictionaries, and the like shall be brought inside the contest
venue.
7. No person shall be allowed inside the contest venue except the contestants and the
proctors.
8. The result of the contest will be posted on the tally board immediately after the
judges have finish rating them.
9. The judges’ decision is final.

lyrics is allowed, using a song with English lyrics is disallowed.
2. Contestant may be: A both males, both females or a male and a female.
3. There should be two (2) voice parts.
4. Singing shall be accompanied by a minus one tape or CD. Multiplex shall not be
allowed. Cd’s must be tried out prior to the contestant and a back-up copy should
be available.
5. Delivery is for 3-5 minutes.
6. Judges’ decision is final.

1. Each choral group will sing the one (1) official contest piece.
2. The voice composition shall be SOPRANO, ALTO, TENOR, and BASS (SATB).
3. The member shall be minimum of 10 members and a maximum of 16 members.

b. The use of any form of liquid.
c. The use of fire, candles and any pyrotechnic materials.
d. The use of confetti either drop of bomb.
e. Breaking of glasses, pots, etc…
f. Audio visual presentation of screen projection.
5. Costume must appropriate to the concept of the dance. Nudity is strictly prohibited.
Violence of any of these consist of guidelines will result disqualification of the
participating group.

Laro ng Lahi
SIATONG
Description: The game siatong is where they use the short and a long stick of wood, usually taken from
the young branches of a tree. The game uses a small dug hole where the short wood is horizontally
situated on top of it with a long wood used to lift the short one with force to throw it to the farthest
distance possible.
Mechanics:
Stick game, better be good at it - Two players, one flat stick (usually 3')
and one short flat piece of wood (4" usually a piece cut from the flat
stick).
Player A hitter and Player B as the catcher. Played outside on the ground
where you dig a small square hole (slanted) where you put the small wood
so it sticks out.
Player A hits the wood with the stick so it catches air enough to be hit by
the stick.
The further the wood gets hit the more points you get (usually counted by
the number of stick length
Player B on the other hand has to anticipate and catch the small piece of
wood to nullify the points and become his turn OR looks forward to
Player A to miss hitting the wood.
TUG OF WAR
Description: Tug of war is a sport that pits two teams against each other in a test of strength: teams pull
on opposite ends of a rope, with the goal being to bring the rope a certain distance in one direction
against the force of the opposing team’s pull.
Mechanics:
Two teams are needed, each team composed of ten (10) players.
The players begin tugging the rope when the referee gives the signal.
Each team pulls backwards as hard as they can. The teams continue pulling until the center of
the rope (tape mark) crosses where the referee is standing.
The game ends when the referee declares one team has successfully pulled the rope past the
center.
SACK RACE
Description: The teams race each other using a sack around the designated area. All members of the
team must finish the track. Each team must have 10 members.
Mechanics:
Each person puts both feet in the sack and must always keep at least one hand on the sack.
On the mark, participants begin hopping towards a marked point and back, tagging the next
person in their team.
Then, the next person gets into the sack and repeats the course.
The first team to complete the course wins.
TOUCHING BODY
Description: Each teams will be contending with each other. The teams will be divided into 2 sets, the
“Taya” and the “defender”, the Taya will be the ones to dodge the ball that is going to be hurled by
them by the Defenders. The goal is to minimize the members of each team.
Mechanics:
LAWIN SISIW
Description: Lawin-Sisiw is a game that starts by selecting one leader (Lawin) and the rest of the players
will be the sisiw. The lawin will lead the game while the sisiw holds the waist of the ones in front making
sure they would not lose grip of each other specially the last sisiw. The lawin will protect the group
specially the last sisiw, making sure that the other groups will not have the handkerchief.

PICK-A-FLAG
Description: Pick-a-flag is a skill development game in which players should have a connection to their
teammates. Teams shall have 5 members, 2 will be the picker and 3 will be the pilot get in the playing
area. This game will test the leadership of all teams cause the picker shall be blindfolded.
Mechanics:
All teams will go to the area of the game, and they will see a huge circle there.
Each team will assign two flag (2) picker and three (3) pilots.
Flaglets placed inside the circle , 12 flaglets each team and has 8 white flag (bonus flag) inside
the circle a total of 80 flaglets inside the game area.
The flag pickers will go inside and pilots remain outside.
The kay of the game is last-man-standing.
HARINA GAME
Description: Harina game is a game In which each team has 6 participants. The participants will be
scooping the flour until the glass is filled. Scooping will be done by the person in front of the line, and
the person at the back would be in charge of filling the glass with flour. Their ability to develop effective
strategies will be put to the test in the game.
