English Reading Practice: Dialogue

Peter: Hey Sarah! How are you today?

Sarah: I am fine. How are you?

Peter: I am ok. I am a bit tired.

Sarah: Are you working a lot Peter?

Peter: Yes. My company is very busy at the moment. We are working on a new project for Google.
It is very exciting.

Sarah: Oh wow! That is exciting Where are you working now?

Peter: I am working in the Software Development department. It is a lot of work and the hours are
long but I really enjoy my job. What about you? Where are you working now?

Sarah: That is great! ... I am working with Microsoft. It is a lot of work too but my boss is very nice
so I am very happy there.

Peter: Cool! And how is Mark?

Sarah: He is great. He is training a lot. He wants to run a marathon.

Peter: Wow. That is amazing. I am trying to go to the gym more often but I am a bit lazy. I just
don’t have the motivation after a long day at work!

Sarah: I know, I know. I can’t move from the couch when I get home from work!

Peter: haha I know that feeling! Well. it was nice to see you again Sarah. Let’s talk soon.

Sarah: Yes, Definitely! Bye!!

Peter: Bye!!

2. Reading Comprehension questions

Where does Sarah work? At Microsoft.

Does Sarah like her boss? Yep.

Do you think Mark is fit? Of course, if he’s going to run a marathon he must be fit.

Why is Peter working a lot? He’s working on a software and he says that it’s a lot of work and that
working hours (I think) are long.

3. Rewrite using verb to be in past (was - were).

01.- I am seven years old. I was 7 years old.

02.- You are my best friend. You were my best friend.

03.- The grasshopper is jumping. The grasshopper was jumping.


04.- The women are talking. The women were talking.

05.- Your bike is in the garage. Your bike was in the garage.

4. Rewrite using verb to be in present (is am are)

01.- Andrew was reading a book. Andrew is reading a book.

02.- The boys were very kind. The boys are kind.

03.- There was a bottle on the table. There is a bottle on the table.

04.- The children were playing. The children are playing,

05.- I was in the English class. I’m good in the English class.

5. Verb to be (Present or Past)

Exercise 1: Put ‘is, am, are, was, were’ in the blank. Be careful with the time expression (Red), they
show you if you are in present or past!

1. He is/was at home today.

2. I am a student now.

3. My mother was in the kitchen two hours ago.

4. Sarah is tired now.

5. We were in New York last year.

6. You were a football player in 2004.

7. Mr. Jones is/was at the market today.

8. Anna and I are/were busy today.

9. The boxes are behind the cupboard now.

10. Ron was thirsty last night.
