OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT, 85 OF 1993

CONSTRUCTION REGULATIONS 8(7)

CR 8(7) A construction manager must in writing appoint construction

supervisors responsible for construction activities and ensuring
occupational health and safety compliance on the construction site.

Duties and Responsibilities

In terms of this appointment, you are required to ensure that all construction work
performed under your supervision is carried out as follows: -
1. By persons suitably trained and competent to do such work;
2. That all statutory appointment have been completed;
3. That, where required, health and safety committees are established and that
meetings are accordingly held;
4. That all persons are aware of and understand the hazards attached to the
work being carried out;
5. That the required site-specific risk assessments are carried out;
6. That precautionary measures are identified and implemented;
7. That discipline is enforced at construction site at all times;
8. That all identified statutory requirements are met;
9. That the safety file is compiled as required by the Construction Regulations;
10. That any other interests in terms of health and safety with respect to the
responsible area is met.
