Course Learning Outcomes (1)
You will be able to:
1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science,
engineering fundamentals and your engineering
specialization to the solution of a given complex
engineering problems
2. Identify, formulate, research literature and analyse the
given complex engineering problem reaching
substantiated conclusions
3. Design solutions for the given complex engineering
problem and design systems, components or processes
that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration
for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and
environmental considerations
College of Engineering, Science and Technology 2
Course Learning Outcomes (2)
You will be able to:
4. Evaluates the feasibility of several possible solutions in all
relevant contexts which, as appropriate to the problem,
may include: technical, suitability for implementation,
economic, aesthetic, ethical, health and safety, societal,
environmental and cultural
5. Understand and evaluate the sustainability and impact of
professional engineering work in the solution of the given
complex engineering problem in societal and
environmental contexts
6. Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics
and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice

College of Engineering, Science and Technology 3

Course Learning Outcomes (3)
You will be able to:
7. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or
leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings
8. Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities
with the engineering community and with society at large,
such as being able to comprehend and write effective
reports and design documentation, make effective
presentations, and give and receive clear instructions

Your Learning Process
• A project-based learning course uses a student-centric
approach to enable proactive learning.
• You have access to all learning materials of this course
from Day 1.
• You have full control of your learning activities on these
materials but you are responsible for delivering the
outcomes of your project works in the form of a series of
assignments to be submitted at specified times in this
semester.
• The project outcomes will be assessed according to
published criteria, which are also available from the e-
learning system, Moodle.

College of Engineering, Science and Technology 7

Project Based Learning
• Form a team with members from at least two disciplines
from: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical
• Work on the specified project, which is a real life problem
with some futuristic aspiration.
• You are required to:
– Elaborate the “user” requirements
– Create a model the system
– Perform analysis on its feasibility, i.e. acceptability,
technicality and financial viability
– Develop solutions or courses of action
– Determine the optimal solution
– Present your proposed solution to the community
