Ms. Elena Gonzalez

Tucson VA Medical Center
3601 South Sixth Avenue
Tucson, AZ 85723

Dear Ms. Gonzalez,

My name is Isaac Deleon, and I am writing in regard to the registered nurse position you have
available in your emergency department. I have just completed a five-week preceptorship within
this unit, and as such would require minimal training regarding standard operations in the VA
emergency department. Additionally, my preceptorship has allowed me to integrate into the unit,
and as such it would be an easy transition for your other medical staff. Personally, I have
thoroughly enjoyed my time at this establishment and can foresee a long career at your unit and
within the VA system.

In addition to my time in your emergency department, I have completed several clinical rotations
within various hospitals in Tucson. One such facility was Tucson Medical Center, where I
provided quality patient care in both the adult ICU and ED. Even in my limited capacity as a
student, I was able to catch changes and concerns that staff nurses had overlooked. My
observational skills helped to improve a patient’s cognition when oxygen was set too high and
catch early signs of deterioration when a septic patient’s blood pressure began to drop. Vigilance
is important in an ED, especially when a patient’s condition can change so rapidly. My ability to
notice the minutia has already led to positive outcomes for past patients, and in your ED, I am
sure these talents would be a great asset in your goal of providing outstanding patient care.

While my observational skills help with patient care, my previous work experience will allow me
to integrate well with your ED team. My previous job as a manager at a local pizza hut enabled
me to develop my coordination and leadership skills. Each day I oversaw around 10 employees,
with various metrics each person had to meet in order to maintain accuracy and speed. Consistent
communication with my employees allowed me to shift my focus if one aspect was falling short,
and my ability to collaborate with the members of my team left them feeling supported and
accomplished as we met our goals. This same style of leadership is what I hope to bring to your
unit. My goal is to learn all I can while taking on more responsibility within the VA system. My
focus on maintaining patient satisfaction while ensuring staff feel supported is what I will bring
to the culture of your emergency department.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in your ED as a student and would be thrilled to continue
working with you in the future. My observational skills will be an asset in ensuring patients
receive the best care they possibly can. My ability to collaborate with others in the unit will help
deepen cohesion, and my desire to prosper in your organization ensures I will be around for a
long time. Thank you for considering me as a new member of your unit.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Isaac Deleon-Daniels
