Reges Resort Puts Guest Wellness First, Bans Smoking On The Premise

WILDWOOD CREST, N.J. – October 18, 2023 – The Reges Resort announced that their private
beaches will be smoke-free as of Oct. 1, 2023. This decision is made despite Gov. Christie’s veto of the
smoking ban on all N.J. public beaches, parks, and waterfronts due to resort’s commitment to the health
and wellness of their guests.

“We take pride in continually updating and enhancing our resort to ensure that our guests have a most
comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable stay,” says resort President Anthony Mollica. The Reges states that
with the voluntary update to resort policy, it will be creating a safer experience for their guests. The
company is committed to making sure the environment and health of those in it remain in good condition.

The decision comes out of concern over second-hand smoke’s effect on the environment and effect on the
visitors and staff of the resort. The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has concluded that
environmental tobacco smoke is a toxic substance that may cause or contribute to detrimental health
effects for those who come in contact. Additionally, a regional government organization concluded that
sitting 3 feet away from a smoker outdoors can expose you to the same level of secondhand smoke as if
you were sitting indoors with a smoker. Stanford University scientists concluded that even if outside,
being downwind from smoking can create high levels of exposure to toxic air. The Reges has evaluated
the evidence regarding the dangerous of public outdoor smoking and decided that allowing it would
conflict with the company’s mission of customer comfort and resort cleanliness.

The Reges Resort recognizes that smoking is an activity that is a matter of personal choice, however the
resort wants to make sure those who choose not to are able to enjoy the beaches without choice of
exposure to secondhand smoke being made for them.

The Reges encourages guests to visit the area and enjoy the property to its fullest extent which now
includes smoke-free beaches. Guests are welcome to simply relax on the water or enjoy the variety of
activities offered by staff.
