My teaching aid is an interactive slide where I made it using Powerpoint tool with the
combination of sounds and transitions. This teaching aid is designed to assist and help
students with dyslexia with their reading. Dyslexia is a common learning difficulty that
can cause problems with reading, writing and spelling. It's a specific learning difficulty,
which means it causes problems with certain abilities used for learning, such as reading
and writing. Unlike a learning disability, intelligence isn't affected. A person with dyslexia
may read and write very slowly, often gets confused the order of letters in words and
they can understand verbal information but have difficulty with information that’s written
down. However, dyslexic people often have good skills in other areas such as creative
thinking and problem solving.
The interactive slide is focusing on year 4 students. I choose topic 7 in year 4 DSKP
which is Helping Out, focusing on recycling as the topic also includes and teaches about
recycling. This teaching aids is designed for teaching listening skills and reading skills.
The usage and integration of Powerpoint tool also suits the needs of cross-curricular
elements in the DSKP which are the use of technology in teaching can contribute to
more efficient and effective learning, and the integration of Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) elements in teaching and learning ensures pupils
can apply and enhance their basic ICT knowledge. In my teaching aid, I include pictures,
sounds, transitions and moving cartoon to make the interactive slides more interesting
and engaging. The interactive slides include text with audio which it can assist the
dyslexic students to recognize, read and understand the text better because they still
can hear well. I also include text with pictures as the pictures will help the students to
recognize the meaning of the word. As we know, dyslexic students have difficulties in
reading and spelling. So, when text is integrated with audio and pictures it will help them
a lot to read the text.
