MES BENCHMARKING ACTIVITY on

READING and SBM

Name of
Proponent Antonio Rogelio P. Current
Añonuevo Position/Designation School Principal II

Introduction A. BACKGROUNDER
Reading is a multifaceted process involving word recognition,
comprehension, fluency, and motivation. It is an active process of
constructing meaning and is kind of a gateway to the development of
academic skills across all disciplines. It is, therefore, a key that opens
all the doors. If one can’t read effectively by an early grade, they’re
unlikely to be able to access content in their other subjects which is
crucial for better comprehension and vocabulary development.
Aligned with DM no.58, s.2023, call for innovation in reading.
Maslog Elementary School supports not just the learners, but also the
teachers in their skill development in reading. A skill development, as
part of our benchmarking activity, will capacitate our teachers with
knowledge and strategies on the best practices in reading that will
benefit the entire MES community.
School-Based Management (SBM) is a strategy to improve
education by transferring significant decision-making authority from the
central office, regional office, division office, and district office to
individual schools. It is the heart of the school complimenting its best
practices implemented to create more effective learning environment for
children.
DepEd Order No. 83, series 2012 known as the “implementing
guidelines on the revised school-based management framework,
assessment process and tool (APAT) further strengthens the practices
and re-emphasize the centrality of learners and the involvement of
relevant community basic education delivery.

Goals This proposal aims to:

a. learn those instructional approaches and techniques that
improve children's reading development.
b. lead to a positive learning environment and happy children
who are more than willing to come to school to learn to read.
c. uplift the School-based management system of our school.
