SEMESTER 1, 2023/2024
TUTORIAL LEVELLING

1. Refer to Table Q1, answer questions below:

Table Q1

Station Point BS (m) IS (m) FS (m)

1 TBM 0.771
1,2 A 0.802 1.552
2 B 2.311
2,3 C 3.580 1.990

a. Prepare booking method using Height of Collimation and Rise and Fall Methods.

b. Do a note check.

2. All the data is Figure Q2 is presented in meter unit. Refer to this figure, answer questions below:

Figure Q2

a. Prepare booking method by using Rise and Fall Method.

b. Do a note check.

c. Determine misclosure of this survey.

d. If the survey relies on Third Class survey, determine whether this survey is acceptable
or not. Given, total length of survey is 850 m.

e. If the survey is unacceptable, what you can do?

f. If accepted, determine the adjusted reduced level for all stations.

3. Figure Q3 shows profile levelling for the survey conducted at foothill of Bukit, Taiping. Given
that RL at Datum is 50 m and the elevation at J is 54.715 m.

Figure Q3

a. Assess the adjusted RL for all the station.

b. The allowable misclosure for this survey must be lies within 2nd class survey. If total
distance for this survey is 460.35 m, justify your answer.

4. Answer questions below:

a. Complete the set of leveling notes in Table Q4(a) and perform the arithmetic check.

Table Q4(a)
Station BS (m) HI (m) FS (m) Elevation (m)
BM 100 2.71 355.23
TP1 3.62 4.88
TP2 3.51 3.97
TP3 3.17 2.81
TP4 1.47 1.62
BM 100 1.21

b. If the loop distance is 304.8 m, at what order of survey do the results qualify?

c. Distance between station is listed in Table Q4(b). Assess the adjusted reduced level of
TP stations.

Table Q4(b)
Station Distance
BM 100 – TP 1 76.3
TP1 – TP2 52.8
TP2 – TP3 36.7
TP3 – TP4 68.4
TP4 – BM 100 70.6
