CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

This project titled “Design and estimate of car showroom and service center" has been taken by
our project group to practice the knowledge acquired over the last few years in the area of
Planning, designing and estimating as a part of our curriculum. The aim of the project is to do
the structural design by Limit state method and to prepare the estimated cost of construction. The
aid of civil engineering software’s including Autocad and Revit used for planning of the building
and Excel used for the estimate preparation.Design were done adhering to the INDIAN
STANDARD CODES like IS 456:2000 for RCC and the kerala panchayath building rules for
the plan.

A car showroom with workshop designed in 5000 sq.ft area.Proposed bulding located at
Thiruvazhikod, and the structure has been planned as a framed structure.Use of all the necessary
equipments needed for the survey of the site.To study the various elements of the structure in
detail. To desingn the building with the load base in the construction of civil structures.

Planing and programming for vehicle operations and vehicle maintenance facilities should
consider all aspects of the operation, as well as maintenance and repair of various vehicle types.

LITERATURE REVIEW

Dion Kooijman et al. (2007):In the postmodern society, 'emotions' are of growing importance
in the constitution of meaning in everyday life. Emotion, the pivot of a new 'experience
rationality' (Schulze, 1992), lubricates the 'experience economy' (Pine and Gilmore, 1999).
Architects claim their part in the emotional branding of cars ? designing local showrooms, as
well as great showcases for the brands at the headquarters of automobile companies. Nowadays,
consumers consider car shopping an outing: showrooms along auto boulevards, 'car cities', and
great automobile shows offer an opportunity.

Lynne Mesher (2010): The Basics Interior Design series from AVA Publishing's Academia list
comprises a collection of titles examining the application of interior design principles to different
types of space. Packed with examples from students and professionals and fully illustrated with
clear diagrams and inspiring imagery, they offer an essential introduction to the subject. The first
in this series, Retail Design takes the reader on a journey through the retail space, beginning with
the notion of brand and identity as a starting point for the design concept. The relationship
between the interior and its context, site and setting is examined and with this understanding, the
journey progresses to an in-depth investigation of layout, circulation and pace. Methods for
pushing the boundaries of spatial design and experience are demonstrated and the effects of the
building industry on the environment are discussed throughout.

Ahmad Zuhairi Abdul Masjid(2019): In the rapid development of new technologies,

Malaysian has never left behind to experience new products and services. With new design
thinking, principles and methods for service development will change the values of designers in
education and creative industries suitable for the next generation. The understanding “dream
society” of the next generation that will merge with the understanding of experience economy
can build the service environment more sustainable. The new generation of mankind is looking
for personal satisfaction with emotional value to their lives.

Technology audit and production reserves (2012): The model and system of maintenance of
quality of services of the enterprise of car-care centre is developed. Requirements and conditions
of formation of system of an estimation of level of maintenance are considered and defined, the
general technique and an estimation order is presented. Recommendations about definition of
factor of quality of maintenance of production and service are resulted

Per Lundin(2008): On Saturday, October 16, 1954, readers of the Swedish morning daily
Svenska Dagbladet learned how ‘‘the car society’’was revolutionizing life and culture in the
United States: when you returned books to the library in Miami, you did so from the sidewalk,
and leaving shoes for repair in Detroit was equally convenient. Across the United States there
were innumerable drive-in cinemas and drive-in restaurants; in Denver you could even attend
Sunday service in a drive-in church.

METHODOLOGY

• Site visiting

• Surveying of plot and area calculation

• Collection of functional requirements

• Preparing proposal as per the kerala panchayth building rules

3.1.site visiting

At first the plot which was selected for the work was sighted. And we found that right was fit
for the work. The soil structure of the plot was laterite. There was no obstacles in that plot and
it the plot was laying the roads level. The roads connecting to the plot was also been checked
we found that an easy area to the plot was abled.

3.2. Surveying of plaot and area of calculation

Detailed surveys are the base prerequisite for building and land development. Detailed
surveying can be dore using different types of equipment and by different process. Here we
have dore the detailed surveying using the phone application Google earth. The rereld was
been collected with this app with the help of GPS and bat light features.

3.3. Collection of functional requirements

Following are the functional requirements of a building construction:

Strength, Stability, Weather and ground moisture resistance, Durability, Fire safety, Resistance
to heat passage, Sound resistances, economical, Security against burglary, lighting and
ventilation, Comforts and convenience,economy

3.4.Preparing proposal as per the kerala panchayth building rules

WORK ANALYSIS

• Detailed working plan

• Desingning of the structure

4.1.Detailed working plan

Planning is the process of thinking about and organizing the activities required to achieve and
complete the mark in low cost without wasting time and utilizing all the resources. Detailed
planning was carried

4.2.Design of the structure

structural design is the methodical investigation of the stability, strength and rigidity of
structure. The basic objective in structural analysis and design is to produce a structure capable
of resisting all applied loads, without failure during its intended life.

CONCLUSION
The project includes the layout of car showroom and service center using Auto CAD,
Analysis and design reference with code book IS 456 :2000, IS 800:2007 and Steel table.
A car showroom with workshop designed in 5000 sq.ft. area. The site location
thiruvazhiyod, Palakkad. Here Ground Floor accommodates front open area for parking
and new cars unloading Car Service and Service Workshop and new cars storage. Use
structural software (AutoCAD) to make the plan Use Kerala building rules. Use of all the
necessary equipment’s needed for the survey of the site.

Detail structural design of building is important aspect of construction procedure.

Practically an engineer employed must have knowledge on designs, construction
procedures, site study etc. The analysis and design of the entire structure has been
completed it includes the design of beam, design of column and design of footing
reference with Code book IS code 456:2000, Is code 800:2007 and Steel table. The result
include the various forces acting on various members as well various schedule for various
members. As per the design we got the diameter of the various reinforcement bars. The
foundation has been designed as an isolated footing using soil condition as the medium.
The roof is constructed by the steel trusses and the ISLB 450 @ 65.3 kg/m beam is
selected.

As per the design the building is safe for the construction and safe for all loads. The
building is simple and easy to construct by using the column structure and using the steel
trusses.
