Class No.: B-17 Date: November 6, 2023
Name: Crisowen Vinz P. Torres Written Work 1 – SY23-24
Grade and Section: 12 STEM- St. Therese of Lisieux Teacher: Sir Sonny Zapanta

Directions: Apply the lessons you learned in Lesson 1.

Write your answers on the space provided for each number.

I. Determine the number of significant figures present in each of the following values.
1) 2.3 x 105 =2 4) 102.67 =5
2) 0.0854 =3 5) 0.0000007050 =4
3) 100.30 =5 6) 1.600 =4
II. Convert the following measurements. (2 points each, show your complete solutions).
1) 2.50 atm to Pa 2) 1.25 km/h to mi/day

G- 2.50 atm G- 1.25 km/h

E- 1 atm = 101325 Pa E- 1 day = 24 hours
1 km = 1000 m ; 1 m = 0.000621371 mi
S- 2.50 atm x 101325 Pa / 1 atm S- 1.25 km x 24 h / 1 day x 1000 m / 1 km x 0.000621371 mi / 1 m
= 2.50 x 101325 = 1.25 x 24 x 1000 x 0.000621371
= 253,312.5 Pa = 18.64113 mi/day
A- 253, 000 Pa A- 18.6 mi/day

III. Word problems (5 points each, show your complete solutions)

1) When storing and stacking hallow blocks you need to take into account the mass of the
object. A hallow block has a mass of about 4.0 kg. If you stack up 4 of these what would be
the weight in pounds?

G- 4 hallow blocks with a mass of 4.0 kg each

R- The weight of all the hallow blocks in pounds
E- 1 lbs = 0.453592 kg
S- 4.0 kg x 1 lbs / 0.453592 kg x 4
= 35.27399072294
A- 35 lbs

2) Shania became a “plantita” during this time of pandemic. She made a rectangular garden measuring
270 cm by 130 cm and decided to surround it with fence. How many yards of fencing will she need?

G- 270 cm by 130 cm
R- Amount of yards need for fencing
E- Perimeter = 2 (length + width)
= 1 cm = 0.01 m ; 1 m = 1.09361 yd
S- 270 x 0.01 x 1.09361 yd = 3.0 yd
130 x 0.01 x 1.09361 yd = 1.4 yd
= 2 (3.0 + 1.4) = 8.8
A- 8.8 yd
3) On a Sunday morning Joy went to the market and bought 1.0 kg of pork, 1 whole chicken weighing
1.39 kg, ½ kg of potatoes, 2 cans of sardines weighing 175 grams each and a pound of cheese. How
much do all of these weigh in kilograms?

G- 1.0 kg of pork, 1.39 kg whole chicken, 1/2 kg potatoes, 2 175 grams can of sardines, 1 lb cheese
R- Total weight in kilograms
E- 175 grams = 0.175 kilograms ; 1 lbs = 0.453592 kg
S- 0.175 x 2 = 0.35 kg,
1.0 + 1.39 + 1/2 + 0.35 + 0.453592
= 3.693592
A- 3.7 kg

Convertion factors:
1 m = 1.09361 yd 1 atm = 101325 Pa 1 km = 1000 m
1 lbs = 0.453592 kg 1 m = 0.000621371 mi 1 lbs = 0.453592 kg
