ASSESSMENT TASK#1
A. Tell whether each of the following is an INTUITION, an ANALOGY, an INDUCTIVE or DEDUCTIVE
REASONING.
1. By looking at the color of the ripe mangoes, you can already tell the one sweeter than the other.
answer: INTUITION
2. The brothers, Jose, Protacio, Mario and Bonifacio love Geometry. The fifth brother, Juan must love
Geometry also.
answer: ANALOGY/DEDUCTIVE
3. Birds are noisy when they are hungry. The birds in the tree are noisy. These birds must be hungry.
answer: INTUITION/DEDUCTIVE
4. Hat is to head as slippers are to feet.
answer: ANALOGY
5. Roel drew five different triangles. He got the sum of the measures of the three angles of each triangle.
He discovered that the sum of the measures of the three angles of any triangle is 180°.
answer: INDUCTIVE
6. I will sleep early because I have a feeling that I will have a wonderful dream.
answer: INTUITION
7. Patricia’s mother is a very good engineer. Patricia will also become very good engineer.
answer: ANALOGY
8. In the given, 1 x 9 = 9, 2 x 9 = 18, 3 x 9 = 27, 4 x 9 = 36, 5 x 9 =45. In 18, 1 + 8 = 9, 2 + 7 = 9, 3 + 6 = 9,
4 + 5 = 9… therefore, the sum of the digits for the product of a natural number and 9 is 9.
answer: DEDUCTIVE REASONING
9. All fruits are nutritious. Apple is fruit, therefore, it is nutritious.
answer: ANALOGY
10. I am more alert this afternoon because I ate a lot of cooked vegetables this morning.
answer: ANALOGY
1. If 5x – 8 = 12, then x = 4.
STATEMENT REASON
5x – 8 = 12
X = 4.
5x 4 - 8 = >
20 - 8 = 12
2. If -2(3x + 5) = -17 + x, then x =1
-2 (3x + 5) = -17 + x, x = 1
-2(3x+5) = -17+ x
-2 (3+5) = -16
-2(8)= -16
-16=-16
=1
STATEMENT REASON
1. FP intersects XC at O Given.
< 1 and < 2 are vertical angles
2. < 1 and < 3 form a linear pair Both line segment are linear pairs.
< 2 and < 3 form a linear pair
3. < 1 and < 3 are supplementary Both linear pairs are supplementary.
< 2 and < 3 are supplementary
PROOF:
4. Write the geometric proof of the following:
Given: IE bisect < MIK
< EIK < XYZ
Prove: < MIE < XYZ
1. X, Y, Z collect stamps. They exchange stamps among themselves according to the following scheme:
X gives Y as many stamps as Y has and Z as many stamps as Z has. After that, Y gives X and Z as many
stamps as each then has and then Z gives X and Y as many stamps as each has. If each finally has 64
stamps, with how many stamps does X start?
X = 64
Y = 64
Z = 64
Work backwards
X = 64/2= 32
Y = 64/2= 32
Z = 64 + 32 + 32 = 128
X = 32/2 = 16
Y = 32 + 16 + 64 = 112
Z = 128/2 = 64
X = 16 + 56 + 32 = 104
Y = 112/2 = 56
Z = 64/2 = 32
2. Mrs. Dizon withdrew ¼ of her savings early in July and later deposited a total of Php 1,500 on four
separate days. If her bank statement showed a balance of Php 3,500 after four deposits, what was the
balance immediately before her withdrawal?
Php 2,000 = x
Multiply both by 4
Php 8,000 = x
Php 8,000 was the balance immediately before her withdrawal.
Php 8,000 was the balance immediately before Mrs. Dizon withdrawal.
3. Manny rode his bicycle 6 km east, 4 km west and then 5 km east. How far is he from his starting
point?
Given: 6 km east
4 km west
5 km east
Work backwards
4. Two boats leave a river dock and travel in opposite directions. Boat X travel 8 km east, where its cargo
in unloaded. Boat Y travels 6 km west, where its passengers disembark. At 2:00 pm, boat X has traveled
4 km east of its first stop, and boat Y has traveled 3 km eat from its stop. How far apart are the boats at
2pm?
Work backwards
if you sum up all the km they traveled (8km + 4km) + (6km + 3km) = 21km well you need to sum up 4 km
and 3 km because they move at 2:00pm
5. T, U, W, X, Y and Z are points on a circle. Each of these points is connected to each other by a line
segment. How many line segments are there?
Work backwards
5x6 = 30 because of probability. if you can connect every point with another point then you can use
probability combination of 6 taken 5
30 lines segments are formed when these points are connected to each other
