Document Development Exposition: Workplace Correspondence

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
I began by outlining the specific objectives and structure needed for both the
email and the accompanying memo. This involved determining the purpose of
each communication piece:

Email: I planned to use the email as a concise overview of the usability test's
findings and the proposed recommendations. It was crucial to provide a
snapshot of the results to the recipient while encouraging them to delve into
the details presented in the attached memo.

Memo Objective: For the memo, my aim was to present a more comprehensive
report on the usability test. It would detail the specific findings, highlight
successful aspects of the instructions, identify areas needing improvement, and
propose recommendations.

First Draft (for peer editing)

The initial draft focused on outlining the test's methodology and summarizing
the findings. Challenges arose in structuring the memo and email effectively,
particularly in creating engaging headings and ensuring the recommendations
were clear and concise.

Second Draft (for your packet)

Incorporating peer feedback meant considering varied opinions and
suggestions. It was challenging to discern which recommendations aligned best
with the document's objectives while respecting differing viewpoints. It
highlighted the need for adaptability and the ability to compromise. Not all
suggestions could be integrated as is, but finding a middle ground or combining
ideas to achieve a balanced outcome was key. These experiences enriched my
understanding of the collaborative process.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

The final draft underwent a few revisions, focusing on uniformity in heading

style and ensuring consistency in formatting. I restructured the content to start

with a clear topic sentence, allowing for smoother transitions between
sections. I integrated the detailed explanations for the recommendations into
their respective sections within the memo, aligning with the professor's
feedback for improved coherence and flow.

Throughout the document's development, I learned the importance of clear

and consistent formatting in workplace correspondence, as well as the need for
comprehensive explanations to support recommendations effectively.
