Document Development Exposition: Workplace Correspondence

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
For this stage of the assignment, I knew what my instructions were lacking for the user test for my
instructions, but this gave me a lot more to work with in the memo and email. The biggest struggle I
had with planning was trying to find the correct order to deliver the information and the correct way
to format the info. These problems weren’t solved until later submissions. I felt more comfortable
writing the email as I’m more familiar with that style of writing.

First Draft (for peer editing)

I did not make a submission for peer editing but after looking though the PowerPoint I could tell that
I didn’t have the form of my memo all the way there, so I adjusted the format to get more paragraph
style blocks while still delivering information succinctly. Unfortunately, I left all the info in the results
section in bulleted lists, so my format was still incorrect.

Second Draft (for your packet)

Very much like the first draft. The only difference I made was moving some of the paragraphs around
to get the order of information how I wanted it. The middle section where I covered pros and cons
was still out of order and not in the correct format. I changed up the conclusion to add a
recommendation of the kind of visual we could include instead of the visuals that were there
originally but neglected the contents of the conclusion and recommendations.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

I finally changed the format of the middle sections by replacing the bullet points with actual
paragraphs for each problem that the users reported with excerpts pulled directly from the review
and potential solutions that could be implemented. I also changed the conclusion to reflect the
change I made to the middle paragraphs.
