Document Development Exposition: Instructions

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
In the Beginning of this project my plan was to make an instruction packet on how to make perler
beads which I really love making so that I could spread it with other people. One of the biggest
challenges I had in the beginning of this project is trying to think of how I wanted to word each step
for the Instructions Packet. I overcame these issues through planning each step thoroughly. I learned
for this project that it’s best to not overcomplicate some of my instructions.

First Draft (for peer editing)

The First Draft of my instructions packet was very long and wordy for my first draft. I originally had it
as a long paragraph but then I added a numbered list to the instructions instead of having my
instructions be one long paragraph that would have been hard to read. One of the larger problems
that I had with my First Draft was rewording my instructions into bullet points as well as a numbered
list so that the reader would be able to understand it easier. I overcame this challenge through
making detailed descriptions of each step so that the reader could understand each step.

Second Draft (for your packet)

My Second Draft of my Instructions Packet was a lot better than my first draft, I made a lot of
changes to the bulleted lists and the numbered lists as well. One of my biggest challenges when it
came to making my second draft was planning each step out in numbered and bulleted lists so that
the reader would be able to have a good understanding of each step regardless of whether or not
they had any knowledge of the subject that was being presented to them. In the end I learned that
not all instructions need to have really complex and detailed steps in them, they can be short and
concise.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

In the end my Final Draft of my Instructions Packet was really when things started to come together,
I went ahead and added a title to the instructions as well as shortening and even deeply explaining
some of the more important steps like picking the beads as well as Ironing the Design. One of the
largest problems that I ran into when it came to creating my final draft of this assignment was
narrowing down some of the descriptions of each step of the bead making process. Something that I
learned from this project is that Instructions for anything whether it’s a simple or a complex process
should be easy and legible for the reader and be good enough for the reader to understand easily.
