Sub.: Techno Commercial Offer for Process Steam Traps as per enquiry
Dear Sir,
We thank you for the kind courtesy extended to us during our walk through study to find
the potential for energy conservation from steam savings. Please find our detailed techno-
commercial proposal for the same.
We look forward to associate for this requirement & do contact us for any clarifications.

Characteristics of Process Traps:
A trap selected for a Process Heating application must have the following characteristics:
It must be a continuous discharge type of trap and must remove condensate as soon as it is
formed without accumulation. This is very essential since any accumulation of condensate
will result in decrease of heat transfer area and would affect the heat transfer rate.
Must be able to handle fluctuating condensate load with equal efficiency since in any
process the condensate steam load is bound to vary being maximum during start up,
minimum once the desired temperature are reached. The trap should work without loss in
efficiency and without wasting steam under fluctuating loads.
The trap must have adequate air venting capacity and should not get steam locked. This is
essential to send out air during start-up and ensures quick start up.
Further to the above points, our Forbes Marshall Traps have following salient features:
The seat, the valve is always sub-merged under a minimum water seal, which
prevents any live steam leakage.
The trap has horizontal inlet outlet connections, which ensures easy and economical
installation.
The trap can be opened for inspection/ repair without disturbing the line.
Process traps are very critical to process parameters and the product output, both, in terms
of quality and quantity (batch timing).
• The trap should discharge condensate as soon as it is formed completely.
• The trap should not leak live steam.
• The trap should be able to handle heavy start-up loads.
• The trap can operate against back pressure
• The trap should have the provision to discharge air and other non-condensable
gases.
• Traps perform well with light loads.
• Traps are responsive to slugs of condensate.
Ground reality about process condensate evacuation application and its effects
1. As often seen in the industries, installation is limited to a trap with some valve’s
2. However, components like below are essential as per god engineering practise
3. Advantages of having Strainer’s, NRV and Sight Glass:
4. Upstream of trap a strainer avoids any rust, foreign material, dirt particles from
going to the trap chamber and obstructing condensate removal, since the orifice
3
from which condensate is removed is very small (less than 5 mm).
5. NRV downstream of trap avoids any possibility of back pressure of condensate.
Because condensate lines after traps will be connected to the common condensate
header. So if the working pressures of the utilities are different, there are good
chances of back pressure of one trapping causing no condensate removal from other
trap. By installing NRV after every trap, there is no back pressure on any of the trap.
This leads to the efficient condensate removal.
6. Sight Glass downstream of trap helps in knowing what is passing through the
condensate piping i.e. whether it is condensate or steam. If steam is leaking through
the trap, then by visual inspection we can identify passing trap.
7. Adequate number of valves upstream, downstream, bypass and to test the traps and
depressurise in closed loop are required.
