Catty the Explorer

Once upon a time, in a small town called Fatima, there was a little
fat cat named Catty. She always loves to wander. One day, she
sees herself heading towards a man wearing a cap and carrying
big bag. He pulled out some jam and a can. The little fat cat felt
hungry and went towards him; however, the man only gave her the
hat then sent her away. The hungry little fat cat - now with a hat -
sat on a mat and then saw a rat. The little fat cat chased the rat,
and the rat fell into a trap. However, the little fat cat helped the rat
and did not eat him.

Guide Questions:
1. Who are the characters of the story?
2. What is the story all about?
3. What have you observed in the story?

EXPLAIN (Teach the concept. It should include interaction 5 mins


between teachers and students)

Interactive Discussion: “Detective Catty”

The teacher will paste the pop-up storybook of “Cathy the


Explorer” on the board that will serve as a guide for the interactive
discussion. Have the students unlock objects with the CVC
patterns and demonstrate how they can be read and used in
sentences.

Ask:
What are the objects that you can find inside Detective
Catty’s room? State them.
In those things, what are the short “a” word with a CVC
patterns?

Then the teacher will support the student’s knowledge of the


concept of “a” word with a CVC pattern that they will be learning
today by explaining through a lecture-discussion.

CVC words are basic, three-letter words that begin with a


consonant, followed by a short vowel sound, and end with a
consonant. Each letter makes it sound easy for a beginning reader
to sound out.

The consonant letters consist of 21 letters in the


English alphabet.

These are b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z.

The vowel letters consist of five letters. These are a, e, I, o, u.

Read words with short a sound in a CVC pattern with the correct
pronunciation.

“Desert Island Intelligences”

Directions: This activity has natural disasters that strands four


groups representing each intelligence on a desert island. The
challenge is that in order to pass this activity, there must be a
group per round that solves the problem according to their
intelligence’s value for survival.

First round: The first group needs to draw an object that has a
short “a” word with a CVC pattern.
Second round: The second group needs to write a short poem
that contains a short “a” word with a CVC pattern.
Third round: The third group must portray an action of an
object with a CVC pattern.
Fourth round: The fourth group must count an object in their
surroundings with a short "a" word in the CVC pattern.
