GROUP 2: RESPONSIBLE USE OF MEDIA AND INFORMATION

Media
✓ is the plural form of medium, which (broadly speaking) describes any
communication channel (e.g. printed and digital)
Information

• the knowledge that you get about someone or something


• facts or details about a subject

Responsible

• having an obligation to do something, or having control over or care for


someone, as part of one's job or care for.
• to have control and authority over something or someone

WAYS ON HOW TO BE RESPONSIBLE IN USING MEDIA AND INFORMATION


Be Discerning
✓ consider other opinions and critically evaluate the information you absorb.
Think before you share
✓ be mindful of the information you share. Take a moment to reflect on the
accuracy, relevance, and potential impact of the information you intend to
share.
Obtain Permissions
✓ ask for consent before sharing information about certain people, events, and
places.
Keep your social media accounts secure
✓ sharing on social media leaves an imprint. Be sure to evaluate the matters
and information you share, and the social media accounts you follow, and
delete anything on your account that may be irrelevant.
Give credit where credit is due
✓ it is always important to give proper credit or citation to the original creators or
authors of the articles, texts, images, and videos we use.
Always be respectful
✓ proper ethics must be observed in any place. Media has a huge scope and
can affect and influence an individual’s behavior.
Verify the sources
✓ always verify the sources of the information you read or hear. Look for
multiple sources and cross-check the facts.
Be aware of biases
✓ try to consume information from various sources with different viewpoints, and
be aware of your biases when interpreting information.
Respect privacy
✓ when sharing information on social media or other platforms, be mindful of
privacy.

Considerate
✓ people reflect a diverse set of customs, values, and points of view. Digital
communication should be respectful, polite, and considerate of others.
Legal and Ethical
✓ respect copyright laws by copying media including text, music, and videos
only with permission and by crediting and citing the source where the
information was found.
Appropriate
✓ only post appropriate content on social media. If inappropriate material is
viewed or received. It is the responsibility of the recipient to delete them.
Responsible
✓ it is crucial to be responsible because your words or behavior on social media
could potentially harm or emotionally upset others.
