ABANDONSHIP
CHECKLIST NO : EM/CK 02

No Actions
1. Determine that abandonment is the only viable option left.
2. Sound lifeboat station signal.
3. Maneuver vessel to aid launching Lifeboat and/or Life rafts
4. Master gives the verbal order to abandon ship on PA system or other means.
Send distress message on all communication equipment available, with the

information that the vessel is being abandoned
If time permits Inform DPA/Company of the decision to abandon ship and request
6.
assistance
Stop main engine, propeller secured, all doors, overboard discharges closed and
7.
electrical sources isolated if possible
8. Turn off Radars (to avoid SART battery depletion)
9. All crew members mustered and accounted for
10. Check all crew donned their life jackets properly
11. Prepare the lifeboats / survival crafts for launching
Lower Boarding ladder and deploy Emergency Towing Arrangement (for possible re-

boarding or towing)
Ensure EPIRB, SART & GMDSS WALKIE TALKIES , pyrotechnics, extra food,

water, blankets & life-saving equipment been taken to lifeboats / survival crafts.
If time permits Bring ship’s documents, certificates, Aldis Lamp with battery,

Ship’s distress signals, Line throwing equipment,
Torches and spare batteries Charts & Navigation instruments. Sextant, Nautical
15.
tables, Chronometer, Ships Log Book, Crew Documents to lifeboats / survival crafts
16. Switch on all the deck lighting.
