Part 3 - Emergency Checklist Fire in Pumproom EM/CK 01- C

FIRE IN PUMPROOM
CHECKLIST NO : EM/CK 01-C

Sound General Alarm and Cease All Cargo Operations. Inform terminal, if vessel

Close the ventilation of pump room and fire dampers which serve the air intake

Muster all crewmembers at emergency stations and account for all. If any missing

initiate search and rescue prior attempting fire fighting.
Master takes charge. Establish communication with all emergency station parties.
5. Notify emergency party heads of the seat of fire, staging area and plan for fighting
the fire.
6. Inform DPA/company of the fire. Request for assistance if required.
Inform port authorities/ terminal and local fire services if in port. Request tugs to

pull out vessel from berth.
Establish vessel’s position and update on GMDSS console. Prepare message

and keep ready for distress message transmission. Warn all vessels in vicinity.
If disabled, “Not Under Command” lights/shapes exhibited and appropriate sound

signals.
10. Prepare lifeboats and liferafts for launching.
11. Check Fire pumps are running, Additionally, keep Emergency Fire pump ready
Commence boundary cooling of adjacent tanks /deck tops by opening the fire
12. hydrants and allowing water to run over the deck. Consider boundary cooling of
pump-room bulkheads from engine side as well
Initiate fire fighting based on the plan developed. Mitigate risks and hazards

before making attempt to extinguish fire.
Evacuate all personnel from pump-room and take head-count. Initiate rescue

procedures in-case of casualty using pump-room rescue equipment.
15. Prepare the fixed fire fighting system for pump room.
Ensure the pump room is vacated including ship’s crew, also office staff and 3rd
16.
party contractors if any onboard.
Release fixed fire fighting medium into pump room as per the operating
17.
procedures.
18. Check if additional shore assistance is required for fire fighting
Continue boundary cooling and take all necessary steps to avoid spread of fire.
19.
Constantly monitor Pumproom boundary temperature.
20. Send updates to DPA/company on the situation and progress of fire fighting.
Maintain records in the vessel’s logbooks regarding all actions taken in
21.
responding to the fire incident.
