PIRACY/HIGHJACKING/TERORRISM
Upon discovery of suspicious craft nearby, Alert Master, E/R and Crew

Sound ship’s security emergency alarm. Activate SSAS. Send distress message on

Sat C, MF/HF nature of distress “Piracy”.
3. Announce the imminent pirate attack over the P.A system.
4. All crew to assemble at agreed muster point and accounted for
5. Alert CSO and FPSO (if applicable)
Implement evasive counter maneuvers and measures to deter pirates from
6.
boarding.
7. Post extra lookouts on bridge and monitor the suspicious craft closely.
Implement all measures and take all precautions, as described in the SSP and
8.
latest version of Best Management practice (BMP) on board.
9. Alert all ship’s in the vicinity of the pirate attack
Inform nearest port authority/ marine police / Navy vessels about the attack and

seek assistance.
In case boarding is imminent, Bridge team to stop engines, make blackout and
11.
retreat to pre decided location and lock inside.
In the event ship’s crew is taken captive, assess if the intruders are Pirates,
12.
Highjackers or terrorists.
After the pirates have gone, have checks been carried out to assess loss and
13.
damage and a report made to the company, coast state etc., about the attack
Maintain records in the vessel’s logbooks regarding all actions taken in responding
14.
to the incident.
BOMB THREAT
Try to determine the authenticity of bomb threat and source of the threat. Gather as
1.
much information as possible if call received directly.
Alert CSO and PFSO immediately. Increase security level to 3 and cease all
2.
operations on board.
Muster all crew and form search parties as per SSP. Brief the teams on search to
3.
be carried out and commence search as per procedure described in SSP
Commence radio silence and use only messengers to pass on messages to or from
4.
the teams.
5. Seek professional help from Police or bomb squad.
6. Prepare for fire fighting and evacuation. Prepare survival crafts if at sea.
If found, Cordon off the area and place guard. Wait for professional help. If danger
7.
of explosion of bomb is imminent evacuate the vessel immediately.
