ACTIVITY 9: PHILOSOPHIES OF EDUCATION

What are the consequences of the absence of a teacher’s lack of a clear philosophy of
education?

A philosophy of education is like a lighthouse of a teacher who’s dealing with various

students that are as wide as the ocean but having no light or a philosophy can lead the educator

to sail in the wrong way. Failure to give a quality education is the effect of having no clear

philosophy. As an educator, we have the power to influence a youth's mind, but if an educator

doesn’t know her philosophy, then how he/or she will educate the minds of the students who

require knowledge from him/or her? That is why, If I wanted to give a good quality education, I

will be starting it by having a clear philosophy of education.

Formulate your philosophy of education. This should serve as an everyday reminder of what
you should be and what you should do as a teacher.

My Philosophy of Education is to give my students the quality of education that I always

strive for. It is my responsibility and calling to not let my students swim in the middle of the vast

ocean without giving them proper knowledge of how to swim. I will provide not just a boat but

the knowledge that as huge and wide as a cruise ship, it will not simply sink and students will be

free to come on board and join me on the voyage of knowledge.

Explain how you can be true to your philosophy of education.

The first line, “My Philosophy of Education is to give my students the quality of education

that I always strive for.” Honestly, I always encounter a teacher who seems not dedicated to

teaching. I mean, I understand that maybe they have something more to do but the thing is they

are not being true to their profession. I experienced having gone to school and then learned

nothing, and learning less. So, as I experienced that kind of failure to receive the proper

education, I will never repeat what I already experienced to my future students.

In the second line, I stated “It is my responsibility and calling to not let my students swim

in the middle of the vast ocean without giving them proper knowledge of how to swim.” What I

meant here is that I will introduce them first to a very basic foundation of the topic, I will lead

them and not pressure them to quickly cope. I will always remind myself that I am the one who

should adopt and not them.

In the third line, “I will provide not just a boat of knowledge but the knowledge that as

huge and wide as a cruise ship, it will not simply sink and students will be free to come on board

and join me on the voyage of knowledge.” The explanation behind here is that I will teach my

students not just a lesson but also a plan on how to shape their future as I’m the one who will

make an influence in their lives. I want to have an impact on them and see me as their companion

in reaching their dreams of life. Not an educator who will be remembered as someone who

always has high expectations but always gives lower grades to the students. The kind of

knowledge that I want to give is the one that doesn’t need to be memorized every single night
but a knowledge that is always remembered by heart so that it is always evident in a student’s

actions.
