DCC 40142
STEEL STRUCTURE DESIGN

It doesn’t matter what the subject is; once you’ve learnt how to
study, you can do anything you want.

mohdfahmiabdrazakpmu2021

 The design of connection whose function is to transfer

forces from beam to column, beams to beam, column to
foundation
 Connections must be designed at the strength limit state
 Average of the factored force effect at the connection and the force
effect in the member at the same point
 At least 75% of the force effect in the member

 Two types of connection are :

 Bolted Connection
 Welded Connection

 All joint shall have a design a resistance such that the structure is capable of
satisfying all the basic design requirement given in standard and in EN 0993-1-1
 The partial safety factors ƔM for joints are given in Table 2.1.

 A connection is subjected to ultimate load of 120 kN. Check whether 24mm bolt
size in grade 4.6 is suitable. Eccentricity between point load to centroid of column
is 300 mm

 A truss member size 75 x 50 x 8L in grade s275 carries unfactored dead load = 50

kN and unfactored imposed load = 65.7 kN. The end of the truss is connected to
another member by welding. Design the welded connection of the truss member
using electrode 42.
