beta cells are able to regulate insulin secretion based on the ambient glucose levels.
The higher the glucose, the higher the insulin secretion is. Once the sugar goes down,
insulin secretion decreases.
But the SU’s don’t care what the ambient glucose level is. As long as it attaches to its
receptor on the K+ channel causing the depolarization of the pancreatic beta cell, it will
keep on stimulating insulin secretion.
Glimepiride (an exception, less incidence of hypoglycemia)
Glucose dependent inhibition of insulin secretion during hypoglycemia
Doesn’t inhibit glucagon secretion
