Some people think that newspapers are the best way to learn news. However, others believe that they can learn news
better through other media. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
ANSWER (8.0+):
While there are those who contend that other forms of media are superior, other contend that newspapers are the best way to
receive the news thanks to their reliability. This essay will elaborate on two perspectives and the reasons why I lean towards the
latter.
On the one hand, other media platforms such as the Internet or TV offer more current updates and greater accessibility.
Owing to advancements in digital technology, these platforms can deliver the news at a more rapid pace. For instance,
most modern news outlets operate using social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to share news and updated articles
throughout the day. With a single click, audiences can instantly access the news they need. In contrast, newspapers are only
updated daily and require customers to physically purchase them from news stands. This is a demonstration of the advantages
other media platforms have over newspapers.
On the other hand, newspapers disseminate more accurate information thanks to their rigorous editorial process. This process
ensures that there is little to no misleading information. To cite an example, prestigious Western newspapers like The
Guardian and The New York Times have a strict editorial code of conduct in which they verify facts such as addresses and
names with standard references such as directories and official websites. Before an article gets published, it goes through
multiple rounds of revision with dozens of editors to ensure there is no erroneous information. This illustrates why some may
prefer to read newspapers over other media platforms.
In conclusion, although other media platforms provide their users with faster updates and better access, I contend that
newspapers offer more veracious information thanks to their thorough editorial process. In the near future, I believe that more
modern readers will appreciate the value of accuracy over speed in news media.

It costs a lot of money for a country to host an international sports event, such as the Olympic Games or
football World Cup. Some people think that this is wasted money, while others believe the opposite. Discuss both
these views and give your own opinion.

Many companies nowadays sponsor sport as a way of advertising themselves. Some people think that it is good
for the world of sport. Others say there are disadvantages. Discuss both view and give opinion
 Dạng discuss both views có thể bố cục bài như sau:
Body 1: Viết về quan điểm there are disadvantages of this
Main idea 1: sport endorsement could harm the reputation of companies
Supporting idea: If the athlete or athletes endorsing a brand become involved in scandal, drug abuse, or
violence, that brand could become associated with that scandal, and face consumer boycotts
 Example:
Main idea 2: it can be a risky financial investment.
Supporting idea: Profit, improved brand image or increased sales cannot be guaranteed for the sponsor.
 Example: if the endorsed athlete falls ill, gets injured, does not perform well, there is a possibility that the sponsor will not
receive the profit that they had originally expected.
 Main idea: When a wrong company associates itself with a major sporting event, it can tarnish the reputation of the
event.
 Supporting idea: When young people are exposed to certain advertising, they can easily develop a positive association
with those products and start to use them.
 Example:
It is not uncommon for tobacco or liquor companies to sponsor sporting events. Since most of the audience of such
events are young people, this sends a very wrong message to the society.
 It is also common for sportspersons and teams to endorse soft drinks like Coca-Cola and Pepsi although they are not healthy.

Main idea 1: without sponsorship, many sporting competitions and events could not operate.
 Supporting idea:
 Example: Large sporting events, such as the FIFA World Cup or the Olympics, require millions of dollars to organise and
coordinate, and sponsors provide a lot of this much needed money. If there were no sponsors, the price of a spectator ticket
would be extremely high as this would be the only revenue to cover the costs of the event, and as a result, many people could
not afford to attend, which may leave the event organisers facing bankruptcy.
Main idea 2: Sponsoring companies are able to gain publicity and recognition through their association with
the event and the organization.
 Supporting idea: It leads to increased awareness of the company brand name.

Topic: The best way for a government to prepare for the future is to invest in young people. To what extent do you
agree? What is the best for government to invest in young people?
The issue of how a government should prepare effectively for the future has long been paid much attention. There has been a
common belief that investing in young people is the most efficient preparation for the coming time. In my opinion, this argument
is quite persuasive as long as a government could work out a viable investment strategy for the young generation. The above
issues will be specifically discussed hereafter.
It is obviously true that investment in human resources is the most beneficial for a state, especially in this dramatically changing
era. It can be seen that the world is changing fast which requires every country to quickly adapt to it if they are to survive and
succeed. In order to do so, a government must rely on their young people, who are more flexible and creative, to quickly respond

to unforseen challenges. Young people, if educated adequately, will become the most powerful source of competitiveness of a
country, therefore, will create greater value than what has been invested in them.
There is no doubt that investing in young people is vital for every country, however how to invest in an effective way is a more
important issue. The best way for a government is having a long term strategy for upgrading their education system. Investment
in education is a long process but it will bring fruitful results. The Singapore government strategy comes as a good example.
They have invested for decades in developing the quality of their education system as the core action in forming a competitive
workforce. As a result, Singapore has developed to be one of the most attractive sites for education for not only the Singaporeans
but also for people from other countries, which has given the government opportunities to attract talent to their country.
To summarise, it is obvious that a country would benefit the most from investment in young people because they would lead the
country in the right direction in the future if they are educated efficiently due to government investment now in education
upgrades.

There are two main reasons why celebrities generate more income than politicians. One of them is that with the advent of the
Internet, there are more ways available for celebrities to earn money, such as online streaming services. For example, singing a
song in a YouTube video with some advertisements enables them to easily make a few million dollars. Another cogent reason
for this is the growing global concerns over excessively high remuneration for political leaders, which can easily lead to public
discontent. In response to such criticism, many governments have decided to reform the reward system for lawmakers, sending
their salaries on a downward trend.

I personally believe that this development is relatively negative for several reasons, with the main one being the potential
corruption scandals this issue can create. The enormous salary gap between celebrities and political leaders might discourage the
legislators from putting in work or even motivate them to commit crimes such as money laundering. In addition, the relatively
low salary for stressful jobs of governors may deter people with foresight on politics from becoming politicians. This is
particularly undesirable because it would result in low level of citizens’ loyalty to their incompetent government, creating
unstable society with more crime and other social problems.

In conclusion, the fact that celebrities are paid more than political leaders now is caused by a wider variety of income sources
available to them, and supported by the social norm that a politician should not be a profit driven professional. However, I
believe this is a negative trend which may lead to more political corruption and less talented governments.

In major countries, celebrities are well known and have fans all over the world. As a result, they earn much more money than
some politicians who are either from local areas or work at a national level. Moreover, people are intrigued more by the gossip
and entertainment provided by celebrities than the debates of the politicians. But, in my opinion, I believe that it is a negative
development overall.
There are two central reasons why celebrities generate more income than politicians. One of them is that there are more ways
available for celebrities to earn money with the advent of the Internet, such as online streaming services. They are no more
dependent on movies or music videos to make them popular. Platforms like Netflix, Youtube and television have opened up a lot
of avenues for them to maintain their traction and make money in the process. Secondly, they showcase their talent with sheer
hard work and maintain their stardom. These starlets work day in and out throughout the year and keep themselves fit through
regular exercise and proper diet. Due to this, they become role models of the youth who follow them on social media and
increase their net worth.
In spite of these facts, the considerable difference in the earnings of politicians and celebs is unfortunate. Celebrities may
represent our country from the entertainment field, but politicians are the leaders of our nation. However, due to less pay, many
politicians shirk from work which affects the administration of the country. More pay would produce more attentive public
servants and encourage the youth to engage in politics for the betterment of the nation and themselves. Secondly, high salaries
would work as anti-corruption measures. For example, in Singapore, the prime minister earns $1.7 million a year, which is four
times more than the salary of the US president. These high salaries in Singapore, apart from decreasing corruption, are also seen
to attract the best talent, who would otherwise go into finance or computing. High salaries have seen these politicians more eager
to represent their constituents’ interests and reduce corruption among these country’s heads.
In conclusion, the fact that celebrities are paid more than political leaders now is caused by a wider variety of income sources
available to them and supported by the social norm that a politician should not be a profit-driven professional. However, I
believe this is a negative trend that may lead to more political corruption and less talented governments.

In several nations, a growing number of children are grappling with the issue of obesity and deteriorating health, with some
contending that governments bear the responsibility for addressing this concern. I totally agree with this viewpoint because
governments can effectively combat childhood obesity through comprehensive policies and initiatives.
“Outdoor activities could foster children physical abilities. It is because when joining these
activities, they tend to be involved in various physical movements. For example, if a child is
playing a football match, he is supposed to move around the pitch to collaborate with his
teammates to score against the opposing team. Once the child players become more active,
they can benefit from a more holistic development.”
Firstly, governments possess the requisite resources to execute large-scale interventions that can effectively confront this
challenge. Through the allocation of funds towards public health campaigns and educational initiatives, they can heighten
awareness about the significance of adopting healthy lifestyles and disseminating essential knowledge regarding nutrition and
physical activity. An illustration of this can be seen in the case of the "Let's Move" campaign that unfolded in the United States
in 2010, which aimed to combat childhood obesity through a synergy of school-based programs, community-driven efforts, and
alterations in policy frameworks. This governmental endeavor underscored the constructive influence of strategic interventions
on the well-being of children.
Furthermore, governments wield the power to regulate industries contributing to the proliferation of unhealthy dietary options.
The imposition of taxes on sugary beverages, the introduction of restrictions on the marketing of junk food to children, and the
enforcement of more stringent labeling mandates exemplify measures that can foster an environment promoting healthier
dietary choices. Evidently, several countries have achieved noteworthy success in reducing the consumption of sugary drinks by
enacting levies on such beverages. These policies have translated into enhancements in health indicators among children.
In conclusion, I firmly support the view that governments hold a crucial responsibility in addressing childhood obesity. Their
capacity to allocate resources, implement interventions, and regulate industries can profoundly impact this challenge, ensuring
a healthier future for children.

Introduction
Many people hold the view that social media negatively affect our lives. I totally agree with this opinion, because social media
can pose some threats to users and cause problems such as addiction and lack of social skills.
Body 1: threats
many threats: promote inappropriate content + security risks
inappropriate merchandise:
promoted in fb groups to make money => users get into trouble
Ex: gambling in Vietnam => players lose money or get caught

There are threats on social networks such as Facebook that can affect users in many negative ways. Firstly, many people or
groups promote (quảng bá) illegal (bất hợp pháp) goods or services on these platforms (nền tảng) to make money, and as a
result, users could get into trouble if they buy or use these products or services. For example, gambling (cờ bạc) is banned

promote this form of entertainment. Consequently, users playing online casino games may lose money or even get caught by the

In conclusion, it appears to me that social media has adverse effects on users’ lives. These effects include risks of

elderly nowadays is much better than it was in the past.

Discuss both these views and gives you own opinion

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more
important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Nowadays, there are different views among university students regarding about the variety of their studies or solely focusing on
their main subjects. While some think that study more about other subjects can broaden skills and knowledge, some argue that
they should use all their times and only concentrate on learning to get a qualification. This essay will discuss both these views
and explain why I think a balanced approach that combines both perspectives is needed.
On the one hand, studying lots of disciplines can help and improve your intellect and adaptness. By delving into different
subjects, students can understand more about every aspects of fields they learn and allow them to imagine a bigger picture of the
world. Moreover, this can also master their problem-solving skills, adaptability and smartness and the like. For exam, a student
majoring in computer, robots can decide to take a course in technology, which can help them gain more information about the
development of them, understand complicated parts of the fields and user experience. In addition, exploding new topics can also
encourage pupils to find new talents inside them and use fully all their potentials.
On the other hand, the importance of dedicating all their time and attention for a qualification emphasize the need of
specialization and depth of knowledge. This will not only give them a full and detailed understanding of the subject, but also to
get more chances to get the job they want, especially since it's very challenged these days to compete with each others. For
instance, a medical student might argue that dedicating sufficient time to mastering human anatomy, physiology, and medical
procedures is crucial for becoming a competent and well-prepared doctor. By investing their time in their own field, students can
develop a completely knowledge and outdo everyone with the same goal as them.
In conclusion, while there are advantages in both opinions and their own benefits for students , a balanced approach between
dedicating all their times and attention for a qualification and learning more other subjects should be necessary.

Some people believe that technology causes more problems for modern society than it solves. Do you agree or disagree?

In contemporary life, it is true that technology is advancing to play a crucial role in society. A school of thought holds that its
demerits outweigh merits. This essay attempts to shed light on this perspective before concluding that I am in disagreement with
this opinion.
“Outdoor activities could foster children physical abilities. It is because when joining these

playing a football match, he is supposed to move around the pitch to collaborate with his
teammates to score against the opposing team. Once the child players become more active,
they can benefit from a more holistic development.”
There are a host of reasons why I am convinced that this trend is advantageous to some extent. First and foremost, technological
development may enhance the working performance of personnels. The establishment of robots or artificial intelligence reduces
the distribution of workers’ time budgets in completing personal tasks, including housework, which enables them to focus on
working. Moreover, authorities can also benefit from this tendency. Enterprises earn an enormous profit from the improvement
of working productivity. As a result, governments pour money into key fields such as: education, health care through tax
revenue, which leads to the development of the quality of residents’ lives.

Another key rationale in favor of this view is that it can relieve the pressure on production costs. Companies can take advantage
of the fast-paced evolution of robots to tackle simple problems, thereby decreasing human involvement in manufacturing, which
alleviates challenges of spending money in paying salaries and workers’ welfare. This reform is believed to cause the boom of
unemployment rates in the future. However, there are some solutions to this problem. For example, firms can diversify the range
of human-related jobs to both maximize the efficiency of AI and meet the demand of jobless individuals.

It is irrefutable that the development of technology can be detrimental, however I contend that its advantages should also be
taken into consideration by governments and businesses.

Question: Some people argue that we should do research into their family history. Others, agree with the view that we
should focus on the present and future generations. Discuss both views and give your own opinion?
Opinions diverge on whether people should delve into their ancestral roots to understand more about the past or conversely, the
present and future cohorts should be their main priority. This essay will discuss both opinions and provide the reasons for my
advocacy that concentrating on the present and future orientation is a sustainable development.
Proponents of exploring family history argue its importance with two valid justifications. The foremost one is that information
about the past holds immense cultural value about the lineage’s traditions and heritage. This knowledge may create an intangible
connection to people’s ancestors which can instil a sense of belonging and make them proud. Moreover, people can learn from
the past mistakes and avoid repeating the same errors. By learning from their forebears, life experiences and wisdom can be
transferred to the younger generations which allow them to make informed decisions if they encounter similar situations in real
life.
However, another perspective believes that it is more important to be present and future oriented. The driving factor is that
people can address pressing problems and make necessary alterations. The world is constantly evolving, which involves
contemporary challenges, such as climate change, poverty, and other social problems. Consequently, these issues require
immediate actions and innovative thinking. Furthermore, many family traditions and beliefs have become obsolete and
unsuitable for today’s society. Thus, to ensure social progress is not hindered by outdated customs and ideologies, people should
direct their attention to the present and future generations so that younger people can develop their own sets of values
and eradicate any inappropriate practices.
In conclusion, I believe that while discovering ancestral backgrounds can help preserve important family cultures and provide
people invaluable life lessons, an emphasis on the present and future groups can better solve certain perennial complications
and foster a sustainable personal growth by eliminating ill-suited principles. Therefore, I am convinced that the contemporary
and future age brackets should captivate more attention from the general public. (325 words)

Some people think that radio has become out-of-date, and there is no need to listen to the radio for entertainment and news. Do

In the old days, radio broadcasting was considered as one of the most important and convenient sources of information.
However, with the advent of other mass media, some people perceive that radio will be at stake of extinction in the future if it
does not undergo any significant change. In my opinion, the radio will stand the test of time.
One of the main reasons why radio would not become obsolete soon is that driving cars is emerging as a way of life across the
world. Radio is installed in cars and listening while driving is a good idea for taking full advantage of their time and obtaining
the latest information, such as news, weather forecast, society, and so forth. Increase in usage of cars gives more scope for the
radios. For those people who have no time watching the box, radio provides immediate and easy access to information. Its
continued survival is also connected to its high affordability. Radio broadcasting is, in general, accessible to the audience free
of charge. Another obvious advantage is that the radio set is portable and convenient. On occasions where people cannot watch
TV, read the newspaper or surf the internet, they can resort to the radio.
The advent of other technologies has also reinforced the popularity of radio. For instance, people can get radio quickly via
satellite, the internet and cable nowadays. There are many other electronic devices, such as mp3 and mp4 players, which help
people enjoy various entertainment programs at their convenience.
However, it has some drawbacks as well. A radio is unable to convey messages with images and motions as television as the
internet does. During bad weather conditions, it is difficult to tune into the desired frequency, and only limited channels are
available.
To summarize, radio broadcasting has more benefits than drawbacks. The remarkable improvements in technology will enable
the radio to perform more and become more widely available. There is no doubt that radio broadcasting will continue to
account for a very substantial segment of the mass media market.

People are very busy nowadays. This fast-paced life has led to a shift in dietary consumption. Artisanal foods and culinary
traditions have been left behind, and modern dishes have established themselves in our dining tables. This essay aims to
explain the rationale behind this phenomenon.
Firstly, family size is the main reason for this change. In the early days, there was a joint family system where one family
member dedicated his time for cooking and domestic tasks. But it is almost gone and is replaced by nuclear families. With
both parents working in most families, processed foods, are no doubt substituting home-cooked meals. Secondly,
technological advancements have also contributed to this dietary shift.
Daily tasks that were once laborious engagements are presently far more manageable with the help of technological

advancements. Examples are appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and microwave ovens. Therefore, new ways
of cooking have replaced the long-established ways of handling food.
Further, technology has rendered our lifestyles more sedentary and fast food is the choice of people in white-collar jobs who
are frequently chasing the clock. Thirdly, the enormous penetration of transnational cartels throughout the developing world is
also inextricably linked to this transition. Liberalisation policy, commercialisation, and the penetration of Western markets
have caused the domestic markets to take the backseat. Also, improvements in the logistics and procurement systems of
supermarkets have allowed them to compete, on cost, with the local outlets - the small mom-and-pop stores and wet markets
for fruits, vegetables, and all other products.
There are a myriad of negative consequences. Firstly, the demise of cultural norms will be inevitable. Specific techniques and
practices would die out with our ancestors as the younger generation aren’t willing to learn them. Moreover, various ailments
such as obesity, cardiovascular and diabetes will invade our society.
Overall, I reckon that this phenomenon is triggered by many factors and has put our modern society in jeopardy.

WRITING TASK 2
In some countries, using the internet in schools is getting more popular. In this a positive or negative development?

Band 8.0 Sample Essay

As national barriers are slowly being broken down through trade, integration, and technology, various organisations are being
influenced by the internet. Nowadays, all academic institutions are connected. The answer to whether this is a beneficial or
detrimental development is discussed in detail below.
On the one hand, there is ample evidence to suggest that the benefits are increasing, especially in the academic sphere. When a
school is connected, they have faster access to information. For example, in certain schools across the UK, matters such as
absenteeism, disciplinary procedures and general communication are performed over the internet through email. Therefore it is
clear that being connected to the world wide web entails positive implications.
On the other hand, being connected to the internet has grave dangers and could even lead to relying on it for everything.
Undesirable facets of society get potential access to innocent children. Furthermore, getting into the habit of consulting
‘Google’ for answers may be argued as counting too much on technology. Therefore children will be more dependent on
technology instead of developing knowledge in traditional ways.
In conclusion, though there are negative and positive aspects to it, due to the wealth of information and the conveniences that
have been gained so far, I am strongly of the opinion that internet connectivity in schools is a positive development.

Band 8.0 Sample Essay
The importance of global media seems to increase every year, so much so to the point of introducing news channel into the
classrooms. I believe this to be dangerous and potentially damaging due to the nature of the media.
Firstly, considering the importance of education in modern society, it is extremely worrisome and dangerous to consider
substituting school subjects with international news. This is because there is no correct, balanced, unbiased news source. For
example if a child spent their school days watching FOX NEWS, they would potentially have a skewed opinion of the world
due to its unabashed right wing credentials. Therefore, changing a child’s information diet from traditional subject such as
music or geography to watching a potentially partisan news channel is an extremely risky idea.
Secondly, if international news were to become a new subject it could have a detrimental emotional impact on young minds.
In general the majority of news is negative, hence the expression ‘if it bleeds it leads’. For example, studies by the EFE News
Agency show that 85% of headlines are negative in nature, usually referring to natural disasters, war, famine, etc. The logic of
having these types of stories beamed into a school, to those of an impressionable age has to be challenged.
“Outdoor activities could foster children physical abilities. It is because when joining these

playing a football match, he is supposed to move around the pitch to collaborate with his
teammates to score against the opposing team. Once the child players become more active,

To conclude, due to the risk from political influences, and the harsh reality of global news, I am strongly in favour of
maintaining the current curriculum.

Every country, no matter how affluent, has poor people. They can be described as those lacking in goods and services to the
point where their lives become miserable. They may lack food and shelter and services such as health care and education. This
article will examine the leading causes of poverty and suggest some possible solutions.
The primary cause of poverty has always been war. The recent war in Afghanistan saw people evicted from their homes,
deprived of food and shelter, and services such as hospitals, schools, gas, water and electricity. Media coverage of the war
caused worldwide revulsion. Some countries, such as India and China, have the problems of overpopulation and
underdevelopment. They do not create enough wealth per capita for their people to escape from poverty. Other countries are
facing problems of unemployment and natural disasters.
The solution to war may be universal rejection that the world leaders will not consider it as an option and seek peaceful
negotiation instead. Overpopulation can be addressed by adopting effective measures to reduce their birth rate and by
developing their resources. The possible solutions to deal with natural disasters is to get massive aid from the rest of the word.
In contrast, for countries like China and India, the best solutions lie in the development of their national economy.
In conclusion, poverty can be attributed to the frequent occurrences of war, natural disasters, overpopulation, unemployment
and underdevelopment. The possible solutions are peaceful negotiations, asking for aid from developed countries,
implementing birth control measures and improving the economy.

Sample Essay
Nowadays, it is common for students at university or college to undertake parttime work to supplement their expenses or gain
some work experience. In my opinion, it is advantageous to students in many ways.
The first obvious advantage is that work can bring in money. In many countries, students are independent of their families, or
their parents are not wealthy enough to afford their education. Therefore, a part-time job can significantly improve the
financial position of a student. It may be an essential factor in continuing studies. For example, in Britain, the tuition fees have
increased a lot in recent years, which has kept some of the intelligent but needy students from concentrating on their study as
they are often in debt and a severe shortage of financial support. So, if they want to pursue their desired course, many students
have no choice but to work in addition to their academic duties.
Moreover, a part-time job can help prepare a person for the real world of work, a step out of the ivory tower. Recently, many
employers complain that new workers do not appreciate the needs of the business, nor do they apply their theoretical study to
practice. But some work experience gained during study can help when joining work. My own experience is an excellent
example in this case. Thanks to my experience of working as a part-time computer programmer, I was able to adjust to
fulltime work responsibilities in an IT company after graduation.
However, it should be borne in mind that the primary purpose of university study is to concentrate on academics. Students
who also work during that period may be unable to devote
themselves to study. Many universities have seen an alarming rate of students failing to meet the requirements of the
universities, in attendance, performance or assignments or exams. Those students who work will likely have more difficulty in
passing their courses, which will have terrible consequences.
But, in my opinion, taking up a part-time job while studying is advantageous for the student in many ways.
Useful vocabulary

There are more and more effective security measures in large cities to reduce the crime. For example, installation of anti-crime
devices in cities. Does this endeavour bring more benefits than problems?

Band 8.0+ Sample Essay

Of late, society has witnessed the proliferation of security measures to prevent victimisation. It is followed by a protracted
debate over its benefits and drawbacks. In my opinion, this is just a reflection of the overblown fear of crime and not the actual
levels.
To some extent, the presence of a large number of anti-crime devices fuel the fear of crime and has a devastating effect on the
quality of life of people. The fear of crime spreads across the community and affects nearly every resident. The most harmful
aspect of this phenomenon is that people’s freedom is restricted and sometimes, their privacy is invaded.
Some measures which are believed to put an end to crime, produce opposite results. For instance, installing street lights may
create peace of mind for lots of people. Still, it also enables criminals to target their prey quickly, leading to a higher
probability of attacks. The benefits of self- protective measures such as gun ownership and martial arts training are also
doubtful since nobody can confirm its net effect of decreasing harm. Usually, most personal defensive equipment is either too
difficult to use or less effective than expected.
Crime reduction and prevention also rely on other approaches rather than just security methods. It is necessary to know that
criminals tend to choose their targets based on time and whereabouts. Therefore, citizens will be more
vulnerable to victimisation if they bypass the places where crimes frequently occur. In the inner city, where violations are
epidemic, eliminating the dilapidated building used by criminals for hiding or selecting a target seems to be more practical
than requiring shops and residents nearby to install an expensive security system. The integral part of crime prevention is
altering the environment, by which the root causes or at least the facilitators of crime can be erased.
However, some security measures do work. For instance, cybercrime has helped in reducing a lot of problem for internet users.
Car alarms have alerted a lot of people against unauthorised use of their vehicle. CCTV cameras have captured a lot of
problems and assisted the police in tracing the criminals.
But in my opinion, increasing security measures such as installation of anticrime devices, brings in more trouble than peace.

The only way to improve road safety is to impose severe punishments for driving offences. Do you agree or disagree?

Band 8.0+ Sample Essay

Road safety has long been an issue of concern to the public, and government as well. Nothing qualifies as sufficient
compensation when a road accident occurs. Despite the painstaking effort to reduce the death, injury and trauma rate across
the world, traffic accidents are increasing exponentially in many countries. To improve road safety, some people advocate
harsh punishment. In my opinion, it is nearly one of the many countermeasures and cannot prevent all criminal offences on the
road.
In many cases, many automobile accidents occur not because drivers belittle or defy road regulations but because those are
unfamiliar to them. Breaking rules and traffic crashes are linked to poor driving skills. Many drivers have limited experience
in coping with different situations and inaccurate estimation of the complexity of road conditions, despite having passed
license tests. It brings to the forefront the loopholes in policies, such as the loose control over car used, low requirements on
driving training and low license standards. To tackle these problems, license applicants should attend more safe-driving
courses and pass strict tests.
Besides education, other endeavours such as improving road infrastructure and transportation systems are equally important.
Road conditions should be improved to allow different users, including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, to use roads safely.
Other facilities, such as stoplights and stop signs, can be used wherever appropriate to curb speed driving. Furthermore,
authorities can sponsor the research on road safety measures and precautions, such as identifying risk factors of different
driving patterns. By translating these findings into policies and practices, the government will be in a stronger position to
protect vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users.
However, people do fear punishments. Due to the fear of getting punished, people will learn traffic rules and follow them. But
there are many loopholes in the government to escape punishments such as bribing the traffic guards.
Therefore, it is clear that punishment is not the only way to reduce the accident rate and improve people’s safety on the road.

Some other measures, such as increasing road users’ knowledge of rules and improving the road infrastructure, are essential.

It is commonly said that the increased business between countries has a great impact on the the culture and the country’s identity
in itself. Do you agree of disagree?

Band 8.0+ Sample Essay

One of the most apparent characteristics of the 21 st century is a strong connection between countries, in terms of culture and
economy. Many people are worried that this may lead to the extinction of countries’ identities. I hold a strong belief that this
issue should be perceived and analyzed from multiple perspectives.
On the path to establishing a closer connection with the outside world, a country does not necessarily disregard its culture,
which is a precious asset. It not only allows a nation to distinguish itself from the rest of the world, but an indigenous culture
also plays many more crucial roles such as attracting foreign visitors, developing tourism industry and yielding high revenue.
The reason partly lies in the fact that for many tourists, a country’s cultural and historical background is one of the most
important criteria in choosing a destination for visiting. For instance, thousands of people want to pay a visit to Japan or
Thailand just for the unique Japanese tea culture or gorgeous architecture of Thai temples. On seeing this, many countries have
put great effort into protecting their cultural identities, to feature in the list of most popular destinations. It is not fallible to say
that an increase in tourism
motivates countries to preserve their cultural heritage.
While tourism encourages cultural conservation, some other elements of culture, such as customs, tradition or taboos might die
out over time. In some countries, the native people have become more accustomed to exotic cultures. It reflects the combined
effects of the integration of foreign cultures, both through media and direct business interaction. For example, over time,
Western culture has permeated into many Asian countries, and the locals are willing to break many of their timehonoured
traditions and adopt new ones.
But I firmly believe that increased interaction between countries in the domains of business and culture can strengthen the
identities of countries involved.

The high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising but not the real need of the society where such
products are sold. Do you agree or disagree?

Band 8.0+ Sample Essay

Advertising is well - known as a method of promotion. It is a method used by corporations to introduce their products and
services to the market, attract the eye of consumers and increase sales. Critics of advertising argue that this is the only way of
increasing sales of some products, inducing consumers to purchase what they do not need in their daily lives. From my
personal
perspective, this contention is self - evident.
Advertisement conquers the audience mainly by sending them the message they are unaware of specific brands or products.
And this can lead to a situation where the customers make wrong decisions to purchase the things they do not need. The
advertisements related to medicine, dietary supplement and other life-enhancing products provide a typical example. Targeting
the buyers who are worried about health, advertisers have sought to encourage them to think that they are threatened by such
problems like malnutrition or dysfunctioning of any of their body parts. Due to lack of knowledge in this field, the audience
will rush to purchase the advertised products. Such cases are ever-present.
Advertising also works to create a best
- seller image for a newly - marketed product. The audiences are tempted to buy it in the hope that they can become
participants of a fad. It is not uncommon that cell phone users replace their phones every year, although the phone they have
abandoned is still in usable conditions. They might not need to make purchases frequently, but advertising spurs them to do so.
Advertisers too, often misuse the power of advertising.
In conclusion, people should stay alert to the influence, advertisements have on their decision-making process. As indicated
above, advertising usually has twisted information about what products contain, or how a product is flavoured, thereby driving
people to make insensible decisions.

It is suggested that primary children should learn how to grow vegetables and keep
animals. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

The topic of which subjects should be included in a school curriculum has gained increasing
attention in present day society. Certain people are of the opinion that elementary schoolers
should acquire skills regarding horticulture and animal husbandry. The benefits which
result from social skill development and improved health, in my opinion, will outweigh the
shortcomings of this practice in terms of disease susceptibility.
On the one hand, children might be susceptible to certain potentially infectious diseases.
This is because many living animals and plants may be host to pathogens, germs, and
viruses. Ringworms, for example, is a skin infection from a parasite caused by close contact
between humans and infected animals. Hence, children’s health is of great concern when it
comes to the application of gardening and domesticating in schools.
Cultivation and domestication, on the other hand, may develop greater children’s social
awareness which will be crucial for them later in life. A child who learns to care for an animal
and plant may get invaluable training in learning to treat people the same way. They could, in
turn, gain a deeper sense of responsibility and understand the consequential effects of their
action to others.
These activities, in addition, play an important role in encouraging students to participate in
physical exercises. Notoriously hectic school curricula with academic exercises and
homework are positively correlated with students’ sedentary lifestyle. Consequently, many
students are predisposed to ophthalmic and osteoarthritis diseases. Moreover, this trend
might give them opportunities to be more physically active and reduce the risk of developing
many chronic conditions.
In conclusion, although growing vegetables and raising animals can possess certain
drawbacks such as exposure to contagious diseases, I am more inclined to the view that the
sense of social responsibility and a healthy well-being they instill are of more vital
significance. Where possible, schools should only include these activities in the course
designs. (277 words)

Some people say free time activities for children should be organized by parents.
Others say that children should be free to choose what they do in their free time.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
While many people believe that young peoples’ extracurricular activities should be under
parental guidance, others assert that they ought to be free to decide their own personal
habits. Both sentiments will be discussed; however, I would personally contend that the
former is of more vital significance.

Granting greater autonomy for children may help develop their sense of independence
and innate talents. The first result is that children may learn to prioritise tasks and organise
them on their own. They will likely be more independent when it comes to solving problems
and accepting new challenges which may arise during their participation in an activity. In
addition, children are born with unique sets of characteristics that can differentiate them from
others. Those who are more sociable often gravitate towards sports and exercise, while the

introverted and musically talented may prefer reading books or playing a musical
instrument. Thus, freedom to pursue their hobbies may further foster inborn abilities.
Nonetheless, I would argue that children may take the wrong path without proper
supervision. Due to the advent of modern technology, young people are now more prone to
indulge themselves in playing video games or socialising on media platforms. This
highlights a number of valid concerns in terms of physical and mental health as well the
modern deficiency in terms of crucial social skills. Furthermore, activities organised by older
generations can protect young people from certain external threats. Social threats pose major
risks and can include abuse of narcotics such as alcohol. Thanks to strict monitoring from
their parents, they are more likely to divide their time into more profitable endeavours which
might aid their future development.
In conclusion, although children that autonomously opt for leisure activities can be more
responsible and independently nurture their hidden talents, I am of the opinion that parental
intervention is of paramount importance. This is because familial control can bar the younger
generation from breaking important societal barriers. (320 words)In some countries, some criminal trials are shown on
television and the general public
can watch them. Do you think the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?
Recent decades have witnessed certain television channels opting to broadcast criminal
trials to the public audience. I am more inclined to the view that the benefits resulting from
improved legal knowledge and a deterrence from crime will likely outweigh the
disadvantages in terms of a disclosure of victims and witnesses’ identities and potential
social distrust.
One the one hand, court trials shown on television highlight a number of valid concerns
for the public. First, there might be a risk that victims' and witnesses’ privacy will be revealed
to the public. In some circumstances, the defendants’ side might threaten or intimate these
people, their friends or family. It, thus, could impinge on the fairness of a trial and in extreme
cases invoke them to withdraw a statement or give a false one. If the case, additionally,
involves public figures, it might provoke reactionary unrest in society as in some cases the
judges’ decisions might not always be true and fair, even in the presence of a trial jury.
Therefore, it could lead to distrusting the fairness of the legal system.
On the other hand, people can gain an insight into the law and many criminal activities can
be inhibited by means of telecasting public court hearings. The main purpose of televised
public hearings is to educate individuals with sufficient legal knowledge so that they can be
better prepared for unexpected situations which pertain to the law. For example, when a
landlord breaches a rent contract, the tenants might resolve it with the full knowledge of their
legal rights and without the intervention of the court. Furthermore, people might more
forcefully understand the consequences of law violation and avoid any future wrongdoing.
This could, in turn, deter any law-violating activities or misdemeanours.
In conclusion, although televising criminal trials may possess many drawbacks regarding a
revelation of the plaintiffs as well as the polarisation of public opinion, I am of the opinion
that they will certainly prevent crime in the long-term and provide insightful knowledge of the
legal code for the average citizen. (361 words)

Some people think that governments should ban dangerous sports, while others think people should have freedom to do
any sports or activity. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

There are those who hold the belief that the authorities should impose a prohibition on
these sports, while others are against this opinion. Both views will be discussed and I,
personally, believe that the freedom to participate in any sports activities is a matter of choice
and should not be interfered with.
The proponents of this trend may argue that people who take part in adventure sports are
more likely to be exposed to injuries or fatalities. This is because these activities are often
associated with extreme conditions such as weather or complex terrain. For example,
mountain climbers tend to scale in remote geographic locations where medical assistance
may not be readily available in case of emergency. Therefore, due to all the risk elements
pertaining to action sports, outlawing this practice would be a feasible measure to mitigate
the life-threatening issue to members of the society.
Nonetheless, I would argue that prohibiting people from practicing these sports is illogically
unrealistic and may even violate the unalienable right of human beings. Realistically, many
popular sports carry a certain degree of risk even in the presence of protective gear such
as muscle strain or concussions in American football. However, the government will
unlikely ban them because of their profitability and popularity. Moreover, a regulation to ban
extreme sports can lead to much controversy in public in terms of human rights. Hence, an
individual’s freewill toward playing dangerous sports activities should be upheld rather than
being forbidden.
In conclusion, people might argue for banning dangerous sports due to the high vulnerability
to accidents of the participants. Nevertheless, I contend that this policy is unfair, and
sportspeople should have full autonomy to play any ones and activities as they wish. (283

Some people believe that women should play an equal role as men in a country’s police force or military force,
while others think women are not suitable for these kinds of jobs. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

The predicament of gender equality in every aspect of today’s society has gained a high
level of controversy. While many assert that males and females are of equal importance in
the sector of law enforcement agencies or the defence force, others take the stance that
women are not suited for these roles. Both views will be discussed, and personally, I contend
that the former is more significant.
The cogent reason held against female constables and servicewomen is that their
performance might be adversely affected by their natural physical and mental ability.
There is no doubt that such jobs often require a high level of strength and stamina which
women are sometimes unable to meet. A prime example is that when chasing a suspect, a
policewoman might not run as fast as their male counterparts. In addition, those who serve
tend to encounter heavy occupational pressure. Females might fail to tolerate the
situation that may result in fatigue or depression.
Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that job opportunities in these fields should be equally
assigned to both genders. The major rationale is that women have certain sets of valuable
personal traits when dealing in sensitive circumstances. For example, when conducting a
body search on a suspected female, female officers might be more comfortable to perform the
task. Furthermore, this practice might help eliminate gender inequality. Many nations such as
Australia or the UK have allowed female officers in the armed forces and the results have
proven to be significantly positive in terms of mission accomplishment.
In conclusion, although women might not have comparative advantages regarding their
in-born abilities, I believe that gender-bias should not exist when considering a candidate to
the law enforcement agent or the army. This is mainly explained by female role in certain
situations and the elimination of gender discrimination. (303 words)

It is a natural process for animal species such as dinosaurs and dodos to become

natural and this process should occur in the absence of human’s intervention. I personally
disagree with the idea of letting animals become extinct without any interference from human
beings.
Firstly, not only natural environmental factors but mankind should also be held accountable
for putting animals on the verge of extinction. Due to the excessive demand for
infrastructure construction or food, people cut down trees to build more houses, bridges or
even for cultivation. These industrial activities will lead to the disturbance in animals’ natural
habitats. In addition, poaching contributes significantly to the loss of a countless number of
species. The prime example of this case is the rhinoceros, an animal species which is at the
risk of becoming extinct in many parts of the world because of illegal hunting.
Another possible reason for saving wild animals is their significant role in maintaining the
balance of the ecosystem. An extermination of a species might bring detrimental effects on
the food chain. In other words, an animal species will support the existence of other kinds of
animals or even plants. If an animal completely disappears from the earth other species might
have a lack of food and suffer from starvation. Human beings will have the same fate as a
result of a disruptive food chain. Furthermore, many exotic animals have a vital
socio-cultural status in society. In a number of religions, for instance, certain animals might
represent gods in the followers’ belief.
In conclusion, it can be denied that the existence of wild animal species is not only a process
of natural selection but also a consequence of human’s irresponsible wrongdoings. It is
humans’ responsibility to protect and conserve endangered animate beings in order to foster
a balance of biodiversity and preserve their importance in many aspects of society. (311

Nowadays people waste a lot of food that was bought from shops and restaurants.
Why do you think people waste food? What can be done to reduce the amount of food they throw away?
The predicament regarding consumers discarding a high level of food has existed for many
years. This might be the consequence of kitchen behaviours and mass buying; however,
intervention from the authorities can help mitigate the problem.
Perhaps, the main causes for this food-wasting society are large serving sizes and
irresponsible shopping habits. One possible catalyst is oversized meals. In fact,
restaurateurs often ask their kitchen staff to cook big portions or promote the sales of food
combos for profit maximisation. Thus, the large serving portions often exceed the stomach
capacity of most diners, resulting in many of them being unable to finish their dish,
particularly children and women. Another cause is bulk purchase deals from grocery stores.
Supermarkets are notorious for discounting products that are bought in higher quantities.
For example, Costco often sells five packs of chips for a discount price. However, because of
having a short shelf life, a household may not be able to finish the excessive quantity of chips
before its use-by date.
Nonetheless, these problems can be effectively countered effectively by actions from
lawmakers. The first solution should be the promotion of educational campaigns. The
government needs to run public service advertising to educate people about the need to avoid
thoughtless shopping and ordering. A public awareness campaign is organised in many
states of America to list down any necessary groceries on paper note or mobile applications
to avoid making unnecessary purchases. Another solution involves the operation of law.
Food retailers and food vendors should be legally required to cease the promotion of bulk
offers. As a result, these actions can help them to avoid impulsive shopping and by extension
food waste.
In conclusion, the disposal of a large level of foodstuffs may be caused by the sales of large
meal portions in restaurants and quantity discount. Where possible, consumer education

about the risk of food waste and a ban on bulk pricing can effectively tackle the
problem. (322 words)

One of the most important issues facing the world today is a shortage of food and
some think genetically modified foods are a possible solution. To what extent do you
agree or disagree?
Many believe that genetically engineered foods are an effective measure to counter the
problem of a lack of food supply in many parts of the world. While this might be a viable
solution in a few areas, I somewhat disagree with this notion because of cost-inefficiency.
The main reason to support the use of genetically modified crops is the improved outputs of
certain crops. Due to the development of biotechnology, agricultural engineers have been
successful in altering the physical traits of many plant and animal species, leading to
stronger resistance against inhospitable weather or pests. For example, an engineer in
Vietnam has invented a salt-tolerant rice variety which can be planted in typical saline soil
in the southwest region of Vietnam. As a result, this variety not only provides the locals with a
means of sustenance but also contributes greatly to the national agricultural productivity.
However, genetically engineered foods are closely associated with high production costs and
prohibitively expensive prices. The invention of a genetically engineered variety often takes
years and costs millions of dollars before launching the product into the market. Moreover,
the intellectual property of these new variations is often a monopoly of a few
corporations, and they may not want to share their patents with others for free. In extreme
cases, they even set a high listing price to maximise their profit margin. This might lead to
the retail price escalation that exceeds the affordability of many individuals, particularly
people living below the poverty line who are desperately in need of food supply.
In conclusion, I somewhat contend that the financial disadvantage poses a challenge to the
use of bioengineered foods though these foods may have higher crop yields. In the
foreseeable future, it is forecast that genetically engineered foods may not be a feasible
solution to the world’s famine. (303 words
)Some people think that mental strength is the most important factor for success in
sports. However, some others believe that it is more important to have strong and fit
people. Discuss both views and give your opinions.
The topic of whether mental or physical characteristics of an athlete is more crucial in
determining the success in sports has become debatable in present day society. Certain
people are of the opinion that mental strength is a decisive factor for an individual to
succeed in sports, while others claim a more essential role of physical strength for sports
success. This essay will discuss both views, then I will give my personal perspective, which is
that the strength of mind is of more importance for sportspeople in order to be successful.
On the one hand, physical fitness is an indispensable requirement for players to win
competitions. Comprehensive training programs which include stamina and endurance
might be indispensable parts of a sports plan so that players might be physically fit on the
fields. The Tour-de-France, for example, is a prestigious multiple stage bicycle race which
is famous for its severity. It is evident that without a perfect physique, many cyclists might
give up in the middle of the tournament.
On the other hand, mental toughness is also a prerequisite for sports professionals to excel
their performance during their games. It is undeniable that most of the elite sports players
possess an incredibly strong mentality to overcome any hardship that they might
encounter when playing high-performance sports. Roger Feder who is an eminent tennis
player is a prime example of an athlete with a strong will. In many matches when he was led
by his opponents, he tried maintaining his composure and confidence and, eventually, won a
victory over his competitors.
“Outdoor activities could foster children physical abilities. It is because when joining these

playing a football match, he is supposed to move around the pitch to collaborate with his
teammates to score against the opposing team. Once the child players become more active,
they can benefit from a more holistic development.”
In conclusion, while athletes need physical prowess to participate in high-intensity
activities during matches and training, on balance, I tend to believe mental strength is more
crucial for a success in sports. This is because only strong-willed players can activate
their full ability in order to achieve honours and rewards in the long run. (312 words)

"Tomorrow is the most important thing in our life." However, some people think that the present time is more
important. How important is it for individuals and the country to think and do something for the future? What is
your own opinion?
It is of paramount importance for human beings to focus on the future, in contrast, others
believe that paying attention to the present might provide more value. I personally believe that
planning for the future is beneficial for mankind in terms of crisis response, both on the
personal and national level; however, I believe that it is more important to focus on the
present.
Undoubtedly, being future-oriented helps individuals and a nation to handle upcoming
calamities, which will help to buffer some of the negative impacts on human beings. It is
undeniable that many simmering situations have become catastrophes because people
underestimate the importance of future planning. Several enterprises, for example, have
become insolvent during the breakout of the novel coronavirus pandemic. In addition, on a
state level, it has resulted in a high death rate in many parts of the world because of a
shortage of respirators for their patients.
Although concentrating on the future might bode well for individuals and the country in terms
of responding to crises, I believe that being present-focused is a precursor to sustainable
future development. It, therefore, is necessary to be realistic and engage in current actions
as their consequences might not only be immediate but also have repercussions for the
future. Many ongoing travesties which humankind are encountering in the present-day
society were caused by the former generations. The deterioration of biodiversity is a major
instance of how human activities in the past may affect the future. A large number of animal
species, as a result, are on the verge of extinction due to the calamitous impacts of
poaching.
In conclusion, it is my opinion that both future and present orientation are evenly crucial for
humankind to a certain extent. While future planning might prepare people for any critical
situations that might occur, being present-oriented, on balance, will reduce the detrimental
impacts of current human activities on the sustainability of societal growth. (320 words)

Many students find it difficult to concentrate or pay attention at school. What are the reasons ? What could be done to
solve this problem?

It is true that a significant number of students encounter challenges when it comes to maintaining concentration or attention at
school. This trend is attributed to a host of reasons and this essay will propose several viable solutions to remedy it.

To begin with, the aforementioned problem has roots in two main factors. Chief of these is that children nowadays are obliged to
study too much, with an excessive amount of knowledge being incorporated into school curriculum. For example, Vietnamese
“Outdoor activities could foster children physical abilities. It is because when joining these

primary students are not only required to study intensively during regular school hours but also have to attend additional classes
outside of school with a view to performing well on their test. Consequently, this has led to the dearth of physical activities,
inadvertently causing students to experience both mental and physical fatigue. Thus, it becomes increasingly challenging for
them to stay focused. Added to this is the fact that students now can have access to technological devices like mobile phones or
laptops virtually everywhere, even at school. Due to the lack of strict rules in most schools regarding the use of such devices,
many students constantly utilize them to check social media notifications, play games or listen to music, hence being unable to
keep abreast of what the teacher is trying to convey.

The problems of short- attention span among students can be addressed in several ways. An immediate remedy is to impose an
abuse prohibition on the use of digital devices during class time. Although there will potentially be some mischievous students
trying to use such devices, this issue can be tackled by implementing stricter punishments such as suspension for those who
intentionally break the rules. Another solution is to reduce school hours, and let students pay more attention to their personal
interests and physical outdoor activities. This can be achieved by reducing such unnecessary academic knowledge for learners
and incorporating more physical disciplines. Adopting these measures can be beneficial for students to regain the attention lost
while studying.

In conclusion, excessive amounts of time spent studying and the prevalence of technological gadgets at school are two
underlying factors that render difficulties for students in concentrating on lessons. Nevertheless, these problems can be mitigated
through a reduction in pointless academic lessons, and enacting stricter rules regarding the use of technological devices during
class.

Investigating one's lineage has emerged as a popular pursuit globally, which has sparked a debate over its relevance compared to
the emphasis on current and forthcoming generations. While some champion the importance of heritage comprehension, others
argue in favour of concentrating on the present and future. I believe both perspectives have their merits, although a balanced
approach would yield the most benefit.
Proponents of researching one's family tree often underline the profound sense of identity and belonging this activity fosters.
Uncovering family narratives, whether triumphant or tragic, lends insight into the experiences that have moulded the present
familial character. Moreover, knowledge of our ancestors' deeds and life stories can inform our own choices, offering lessons
derived from historical successes and missteps. In essence, our past serves as an instructive foundation upon which we can
construct our present and future.
Conversely, those who prioritise attention to the present and future generations underscore the need for progress and evolution.
They argue that overemphasis on historical legacies might result in undue veneration of the past, potentially hindering adaptation
to current socio-economic contexts. For instance, clinging to outdated traditions or values could obstruct societal growth,
demanding a focus on cultivating a future-minded perspective that encourages innovation and adaptability.
In my opinion, these contrasting views are not mutually exclusive but rather complementary. Grasping our roots can enrich our
understanding of ourselves and our families, creating a robust sense of identity. Concurrently, striving to enhance the present and
future is vital to ensure the survival and prosperity of forthcoming generations. Balancing reverence for our heritage with
forward-thinking attitudes, I believe, provides a comprehensive approach to familial comprehension, and by extension, personal
growth.
In conclusion, while delving into family history can yield invaluable lessons and foster identity, focusing on current and future
generations is equally crucial for societal evolution and growth. Harmonising these perspectives, rather than prioritising one over
the other, seems to be the most effective strategy for individual and collective progress.

Some people believe that increasing taxes on various industries will reduce pollution whereas others believe that there
are better alternative ways.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Pollution is a critical issue that demands attention globally, and there are diverse opinions on the most effective approach to
address it. While some people believe that increasing taxes on industries can reduce pollution, others suggest that there are better
alternatives. In this essay, I will explore both perspectives and provide my own view on the matter.
Those in favor of increasing taxes argue that it is a practical way to reduce pollution. They believe that increased taxes on raw
materials and products will discourage industries from producing and transporting them, reducing carbon emissions. For
example, the traditional auto-manufacturing sector has experienced a decrease in production and delivery of cars to customers
since recent tax hikes on car components and fossil fuels, reducing carbon footprints and contributing to a cleaner environment.
However, this approach may have unintended economic consequences, such as stifling growth and deterring investment in
industries.
In my opinion, focusing on renewable energy sources is a more sustainable way to tackle pollution. Carbon-free energy sources
produce no harmful pollutants, and companies are investing in research and development in this field. For instance, Tesla has

COMPOUND SENTENCE
“Carbon-free energy sources produce no harmful pollutants, and companies are investing in research and development
in this field.”
The grammar structure used here is a compound sentence with the conjunction “and” to connect two independent clauses. I also
used the adjective “harmful” to modify the noun “pollutants,” which adds specificity to the sentence and improves its clarity.

Young people are encouraged to do volunteer work to contribute to the development of their community. While there are
admittedly several drawbacks such as heavy workload pertaining to this development, I still believe the merits resulting from
enhanced social skills and the acquisition of a sense of responsibility will overshadow any demerits.

In recent years, many people hold conflicting views about whether advancements in technology should have a negative or
positive effect on the state of crimes in the world. I am strongly in strong agreement as this helps to decline the number of
unlawful actions.
There are various reasons why technological progress increases the crime rate. One of the most important reasons is that it has
paved the way for an emerging kind of crime, which is: cybercrime. Nowadays, almost activities, ranging from purchasing and
communication to recreation are done via the Internet. Therefore iIt has become a colossal source of personal information in all
sectors so an increasing number ofmore and more hackers are trying to steal users’ information. As a result, in less
negativepositive cases, this information is sold to a third party for advertising purposes. In other more harmful scenariosIf not, in
negative cases, thieves usually trick credulous individuals such as youngsters or the eldersold into believing and sending them
money. Worsely, hackers can blackmail individuals them by threatening to reveal their secrets to the newspaper or on the Inte
rnet. Many undesirable consequences of loss of life and property have occurred in the world.
However, I would argue that technological advancements help to reduce the number of criminal activities. Firstly, high-tech
gears and programs allow to solve cases faster case solving. Thanks to CCTV cameras located on the streets, itinerary cameras
of cars or DNA technology, police can find concrete proofs to catch exact offenders easily . In the past, many cases camecome to
an end without any hard evidence and clues due to the lack ofno support from technology. Moreover, the use of technology like
video cameras helps to deter people from committing a crime. Petty criminals like pickpockets and shoplifters are, for instance,
less likely to operate in parts of cities where they know they are always being watched by video surveillance. In some countries,
released convicts will usually be forced to wear a GPS tracking device. Therefore, inhabitants feel safer whenever they go out.
(Point thứ 2 này rất tốt trong việc đưa ra luận điểm và kết thúc nó, tốt hơn toàn bộ các point trước của em, em nên đi theo cấu

In conclusion, although there are sound arguments as to why technology developments facilitate crimes, I believe that, in reality,
it can help avert criminal activities. 342 words

Agree or disagree về việc sống mà without technology

Today, computer technology is becoming more and more advanced. Many people think that it is wasteful to spend money on
maintaining public libraries because most of their functions can be replaced with computer technology. However, I firmly
believe that library should never be disregarded by our society.
On one hand, the development of computer science has brought about lots of benefits to our lives. Anyone could obtain and
store a great amount of information online easily instead of going to public libraries to search for them. People can also read
books on the move with their mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, and so on. Furthermore, people do not have to remember
the deadline to return the books.
On the other hand, public libraries still have several advantages over the Internet. First, a library always plays an important role
as a reliable learning resource. Indi- viduals could get access to sufficient data for their studies when they use public li- braries.
Second, individuals have more chances to make new friends and exchange learning experience when studying in a library. This
opportunity can rarely be found on studying in front of a computer. Compared with only studying via the Internet, students could
study in a more quiet and professional environment for academic purposes such as doing researches or graduate thesis.
“Outdoor activities could foster children physical abilities. It is because when joining these

playing a football match, he is supposed to move around the pitch to collaborate with his
teammates to score against the opposing team. Once the child players become more active,

In conclusion, I believe that both public libraries and computer technology are necessary for people to expand their knowledge.
Therefore, public libraries will not disappear or be replaced by computer science in the near future because of their unique
features and benefits.

In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting
university studies. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this .

In some areas of the world, it is very ubiquitous to see the young take a gap year between the end of high school and the
commencement of university either to relax or to get employed, and they are now increasingly advocated to do that. In this
essay, I will provide some pros and cons of that phenomena.
“Outdoor activities could foster children physical abilities. It is because when joining these

playing a football match, he is supposed to move around the pitch to collaborate with his
teammates to score against the opposing team. Once the child players become more active,
they can benefit from a more holistic development.”
First of all, it is easy to see that students can gain many perks over the ones not taking a gap year to serve for refreshing or
employment purposes. Working at an early age can benefit peers in many ways. Not only do they get a chance to put their
knowledge into practice but they also get a chance to enrich their own experience in the job market, which can serve as the
foundation for employment prospects in the near future. And they also can be very enjoyable, too. To exemplify, if a young
student decides to take a gap year to work at a garments retailer, he/she is prone to complement one’s own abilities in persuading
and consulting customers and even get paid to buy everything they want, which is hardly obtained if one decides just to stay at
home.
Nevertheless, the trade-offs of taking risks to refresh and work cannot be overlooked. The period of time between the two stages
of those education mentioned is very crucial for students to do some preparations not only in getting used to a new institute but
also in studying some subjects in advance to not get shocked. If a student opt for going out to seek for other demands, it is very
likely that they will not have time to do those things, making it difficult for them to follow the curriculum in the next year,
worsening their academic achievements.
To sum up, taking a gap year between high school and university to relax and work indeed brings back many perks to students
such as real-life experience and application of knowledge, but it can be negative in many ways such as narrowing down the time
span used for studying.

Question: The diagram below shows the development of cutting tools in the Stone Age. Summarise the information by
selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
(IELTS Academic, 26/08/2023)
ANSWER:
The given diagram compares stone age cutting tools at 1.4 million and 0.8 million years ago. Overall, the later one appears to be
bigger in size and its shape was also better refined with sharper, more uniform edges and a pointed end.
To begin with, tool A, dated 1.4 million years ago, has a height and width of about 7.5 and 3 centimeters respectively, and is
around 1-2cm thick. From the front view, there were large random cuts which created rough edges and a tapered end. From the
other sides, similar cuts can be seen, and a sharp end was formed at the top of the tool.
Turning to Tool B, we can see that after 0.6 million years, the cutting tool had doubled in size, with a height of about 10
centimeters and a width of slightly over 6 centimeters, whereas it retained a similar thickness. A look from the front and the
back of tool B reveals that its outer shape became significantly finer with a sharp pointy top and a smooth curved bottom. Its
side view also witnessed a remarkable transformation which made the tool take the shape of a leaf with a sharp edge running
across the tool.
