IESV201 Assignment Brief 2022

Focus: Practical application of statistical techniques

Grouping: Individual assignment
Purpose: To give the student the opportunity to apply statistical techniques used
in practice. You will be required to submit two documents, an Excel
spreadsheet and a Word document. All Graphs and calculations must
be done in the Excel document. The Word document will be a report of
your calculations in the Excel document.
Due date: Friday 13 May 2022 at 08:00
Word Document must be uploaded on MOODLE
Excel Document must be uploaded on MOODLE and e-mailed to
the lecturer
MOODLE does not accept late submissions. Excel Document received
on e-mail after 08:00 will not be accepted. Rather submit your
assignment a few days early.
What to do:
The following point must be done in excel (Point 1-6)
Before you start with the following points you need to “clean” the data.
1. Use the the data provided. Add table of frequencies by using the Excel Countif
function. This must be done below the datasheet by counting all the similar
answers in each column. The analysis must be provided for EVERY question.
See the hypothetical data below as an example.
2. Use different graphs to display all the student information from Questionnaire 1.
The following must be among the graphs:
 Histogram
 Stacked bar chart
 Pie chart
 Ogive

3. Prepare two different cross tabulation tables. For each table select a question
from each questionnaire to complete the cross tabulation tables. Select
questions that is of significance for you.

4. Draw a graph that will best display your results from the cross tabulation tables.

5. For all the questions from Questionnaire 1, calculate one measure of central
location.

6. Determine the 95% confidence interval for the APS results of the respondents.

The following point must be done in word (Point 1-6)

7. Do a literature review of a minimum of 2pages on “The importance of statistics in
Manufacturing”. You need to use a minimum of 10 references. No intext
referencing = no referencing (Tip use Mendeley as an add on to assist with
referencing).

8. Present and discuss the results from points 2-6 in the word document (Results
from your excel document). Provide relevant management conclusions for each
point individually.

Important Note:

 See assignment guideline on MOODLE for Technical Requirement of the

assignment.
 Read the Plagiarism and Referencing guideline on MOODLE.
 Use the cover page provided on MOODLE.
 Use the Assessment Evaluation as a guideline for your assignment to ensure
you don’t leave something out.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ASSIGNMENT MUST BE SUBMITTED THROUGH
TURNITIN ON THE LEARN SITE (http://learn.nmmu.ac.za/). A SIMILARITY OF
MORE THAN 24% WILL NOT BE MARKED. STUDENT WILL GET AN
OPPORTUNITY TO RE-SUBMI AND IF THE SIMILARITY IS STILL TOO HIGH A
ZERO MARK WILL BE GIVEN.
