To be able to come up with a research paper is an essential skill that a student has. The
ability to apply the scientific method in research is a skills that requires time to be acquired.
Research plays a vital role in school, especially in Senior High School because a students is
required to conduct various studies as part of their curriculum.
In the K-12 Curriculum of the Philippines, the Senior High School program offers three
subjects of research as their subjects namely Practical Research I, Practical Research II and
Inquiries, Investigations and Immersions which focuses in both qualitative and quantitative
aspect of research. As the DepEd Order no. 21 s. 2019 states that the k-12 curriculum should
promote inquiry-based learning which requires the students to put a premium in questioning,
investigating, proving, probing, explaining, predicting and establishing connections and
evidences, the curriculum requires the learners to conduct a research before graduating Senior
High School.
Constructing research is not easy, especially for students. They may encounter different
challenges and difficulties in the process of conducting their study. Concrete guide on how to
conduct a research should be available to help the students in crafting their paper since it will
serve as their step-by-step guide in coming up with a good paper.
With this reason, the research to come-up with this study with an end in mind that the
research guide that serves as the output of this paper will contribute to the success of students
in crafting their research paper.
1. What are the difficulties encountered by the students in crafting their research
2. What are the difficulties encountered by the teachers in teaching research?
3. Is there a significant relationship between the difficulties encountered by the teachers and
students?
4. Based on the result of the study, what action can be proposed?
Writing a research is a common problem among students. Aside from the fact that the
conduct of research itself is hard, crafting the paper with no concrete format and guide boils up
the pressure on the part of the learners.
It is proven in the study of Coloma (2019) that a research manual addresses the concerns
of the learners both physical and mental aspect and then shall cover these negative encounters
into positive.
This study will focus on the crafting of a research guide for the students of Francisco P.
Tolentino Integrated High School. The proponents of this study believe that a concrete guide
would boost up the confidence of the students in crafting their research paper as well as address
the difficulties encountered by the teachers who are handling research subjects.
The study will involve the Senior High School students of Francisco P. Tolentino Integrated
High School as well as the teachers who are handling research subject. Availability sampling will
be used for the SHS students. In as much as the teachers who are handling research subjects
are less than 10, population will be used.
Using descriptive-quantitative design, the researchers will determine the difficulties encountered
by the students in crafting their research as well as the difficulties encountered by the teachers
who are handling research subjects through a survey questionnaire. The contents of these
instruments will be a mixture of researchers-made and adapted items suited to the context of
the study. Validation of instruments will be carried out with content and technical experts.
Ethics approval to conduct the study will be secured. All participants will be provided with
informed consent to partake in the study. Rest assured that the principles of anonymity, privacy,
and confidentiality shall be observed all throughout the conduct of the study.
The interpretation of results will be done statistically and analytically to offer an in-depth
synthesis of the study. Data will be analyzed using either the non-parametric or parametric tool
depending on the normality in the distribution of the respondents’ data.
