Project F.L.A.M.E.: “Fire Prevention for Learners to raise Awareness and to Mitigate the impacts
and Effects of fire hazards”
Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction (DRR) is one of the core subjects under the
Senior High School Curriculum. As a big part of understanding disasters involves projecting
future possibilities, learning about DRR first includes understanding what are disasters and
the different hazards that may then potentially lead to these disasters. Rather than keeping the
awareness to our own, we the Grade 12 Curriculum will raise an awareness campaign to the
Grade 8 Curriculum.
The goal of Project FLAME is to conduct a fire awareness campaign for learners of
the Grade 8 curriculum to help raise awareness and mitigate the impacts and effects of fire
hazards. The objective of this project is to educate participants on how to avoid fires and fire-
related injuries, to create awareness of fire deaths and injuries and their common causes and
to inform participants of their personal responsibilities towards fire safety and injury
prevention.
As we all know, the Philippines is frequently cited as among the top countries most at
risk of disasters. While disasters can arise from man-made sources, the most inevitable ones
come from natural phenomena. Even without scientific scrutiny, every Filipino is familiar
with the impacts of typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and fires on everyday life and
national development. This makes learning about disaster preparedness aligned with
everyone’s interests.
As many people say, “Prevention is better than cure”. Preventing disasters has a much
better impact on people’s lives.
