ASSISTANCE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AT CIHANJAWAR
STATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN 2023

ABSTRACT
Scouting is one of the most widely held extracurricular activities at every
level of school. In scouting activities students are coached so that they
have personality, have noble character, have faith and piety and have a
great sense of responsibility. The formation of scout extracurriculars is
one of the community service programs in Cihanjawar Village. Because
there is no scout extracurricular activity at SDN Cihanjawar and the lack
of interest for students to join scouting at school, so researchers are
interested in overcoming these problems with the aim of establishing
quality scouting extracurricular activities at SDN Cihanjawar. The method
used in this service is the KPM method through the Participatory Action
Research (PAR) approach. The KPM approach with Participatory Action
Research (PAR) is an approach whose process aims at learning in
overcoming problems and fulfilling practical community needs, as well as
knowledge production, and the process of social change in society. The
steps taken in this service are first to observe what activities are carried
out at school. The second conducted interviews with the Head of SDN
Cihanjawar and the Deputy Head of Student Affairs regarding what
planned activities had not been realized. Furthermore, after getting a
problem, namely the absence of extracurricular activities, especially
scouting, the next step is to make a registration form for students who are
interested in participating in scouting extracurricular activities and
forming scouting extracurricular activities which are held every Saturday
morning at 08.00. The result of the dedication to mentoring the formation
of scout extracurricular activities is the creation of quality Cihanjawar
Elementary School extracurriculars.

1. INTRODUCTION
Indonesia as a developing country with a population exceeding
two hundred people is very upholding education, this is stated in
the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia it is said that
one of the goals of the Republic of Indonesia is to educate the
nation's life. To realize this goal, of course, by always improving
education properly. Therefore, the government has regulated this
in Law No. 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education system
article 1, one of which is as follows: education is a conscious and
planned effort to create a learning atmosphere and learning
process so that students actively develop their potential to have
religious spiritual power, self-control, personality, intelligence,
noble character, in terms of necessary skills of himself, society,

nation, and state. Education is the most important thing in our
lives, it indicates that every human being deserves and hopes to
always develop in education. With education, a person will get
high knowledge, abilities, and human resources. This will be the
capital to survive in the era of globalization. (Sumarna, 2021)
Education does not only run in the academic realm, but also in
non-academics. One of them is extracurricular activities provided
by the school as a means of developing the interests and talents of
students. According to what is stated by, namely: extracurricular
activities are activities carried out outside the classroom and
outside the lesson (curriculum) to develop the potential of human
resources (HR) owned by students both related to the application
of knowledge obtained and in a special sense to guide students in
developing the potential and talents that exist in themselves
through mandatory or elective activities. One example of
extracurricular activities that are very familiar is scout
extracurriculars, where scouting activities are always carried out
at every level of education starting from elementary school, junior
high school, high school / vocational school, even to college. This
indicates that scouting activities are very important for education.

Extracurricular scouting is one of the organizations that is
oriented not only in terms of cognitive mastery but self-mastery
training implementatively for both individual benefit and
collective benefit. Thus, the existence of scout extracurricular in
schools is not only a filler of activity gaps and pluses for students
who are directly involved in it but fundamentally provides the
greatest contribution in fostering self-potential in actualizing into
the surrounding environment, especially in the social
environment.
The place of devotion of the author is Cihanjawar Village, where
there is one public school in the village, namely Cihanjawar
Elementary School. The problem that occurs at SDN Cihanjawar
is that there are no extracurricular activities, even though this
school has run K13 which in K13 extracurricular activities,
especially scouting, are mandatory activities. Because it was said
by the Minister of Education and Culture Mohammad Nuh the
reason why scouting became a mandatory extracurricular is first,
the basis for legality is clear. There is a law, namely the law in

question is Law Number 12 of 2010 concerning the Scout
Movement. The second reason is that Scouting teaches many
values, ranging from leadership, togetherness, social, love of
nature, to independence. "In terms of the organization, it has also
been proven. which is very beneficial for students, especially at
the elementary level.
The problem that occurs at Cihanjawar Elementary School is that
there are no scout coaches and coaches and the distance between
students' homes and schools is too far, this also occurs because of
the lack of initiative of teachers in the school to form
extracurricular activities. In connection with this, the service is
interested in holding quality scout extracurricular activities.
Through training, coaching students who are interested in
participating in scouting activities. So the devotee formulated the
title "Assistance in the Formation of Scout Extracurriculars at
SDN Cihanjawar in 2023"
[2.] LITERATURE REVIEW
[2.1] Scout Extracurriculars
According to Sudirjo, what is meant by extracurricular activities is
activities outside of ordinary study hours that aim to make
students better internalize what is learned intracurricularly.
Meanwhile, according to the Directorate of Vocational Secondary
Education, it provides an understanding that extracurricular
activities are activities carried out outside of face-to-face class
hours, carried out at school and outside of school in order to
further enrich and expand students' insights, knowledge and
abilities in living what has been learned in intracurricular
activities. In addition, through extracurricular activities, students'
talents and interests are developed in personal coaching efforts.

And scouting is a movement that used to be called scouting. In
general, it was established with the aim of developing good
morals and citizenship in children. In Indonesia, the scout
movement is an organization that is a forum for the scouting
education process. Meanwhile, Agus Widodo HS explained that
the scout movement is an Indonesian national scout movement
which is an organization whose membership is voluntary, does not
distinguish between ethnicity, race, class, and religion. So we can
take extracurricular scouting is a formal non-lesson activity
carried out by students in schools that is held outside the standard
curriculum study hours to study scouting.
1.1[2.2] Student Character
Character comes from the Greek word "kharrasein" which means
to sculpt or carve while in Latin, character means to distinguish
signs, psychological traits, character, and disposition. Character is
a characteristic or characteristic, style or characteristic of a person
that comes from the formations received from the environment,
for example family in childhood, and also innate to a person from
birth. And character is a trait that is ingrained in a person's soul
and that trait will arise every time he acts without feeling difficult
because it has become an everyday culture. (Muhajirin, 2017, p.
16)

2.[3.] METHODS
[3.1] Method Overview Method ABOUT
TheM etode used in this service is the KPM method through the
Participatory Action Research (PAR) program. The KPM
approach with Participatory Action Reseacrch (PAR) is an
approach whose process aims at learning in overcoming problems
and meeting the practical needs of the community, as well as the
production of science, and the process of social change in society.
who are participants in this service are all students of SDN
Cihanjawar. Stages This approach has three main pillars or stages
including research methodology, action dimension, and
participation dimension. (Effendi, 2023)
2.1[3.2] The Three Main Pillars
1) Research Methodology
Research methodology or diagnosis site (problem), in
this service that in the school of SD NEGERI
CIHANJAWAR there is no extracurricular scouting
activities due to the lack of Human Resources (HR)
in the school.
2) Dimensions of Action
Dimension of Action or Action Planning, the service
tries to form scouting activities in SD NEGERI
CIHANJAWAR schools which are held once a week
on Saturdays, which aims to strengthen the
character education process in SD NEGERI
CIHANJAWAR schools through strengthening
learning.
3) Dimensions of Participation
Dimensions of Participation or Implementation of
Actions, the service of implementing scouting
activities in cihanjawar public elementary schools, as
for some of the activities applied are: routine
exercises every Saturday, practice of the scout honor
code, marching line troops, learning while doing, and
memorizing yel-yel (Effendi, 2023) (Effendi, 2023, p.
6)
3.[4.] RESULTS & DISCUSSION
This service activity is carried out in several stages. The first
phase in the first week is to carry out observations on Friday,
February 3, 2023 at SDN Cihanjawar, Purwakarta regency. Then
followed by an interview with the head father and student of SDN
Cihanjawar on Saturday, February 4, 2023. The targets of this
extracurricular activity are all students in the school. The results
of the interview found that there were no extracurricular activities
at SDN Cihanjawar. This problem does not only depart from the
observation of the devotee, but also becomes a complaint from the
Head of SDN Cihanjawar and students at the elementary school.
Through interviews with the principal's father, the reasons why
there is no extracurricular scouting at the school, namely the lack
of student interest, the absence of coaches and coaches, and the
constraints on the distance between school and home.
The second stage after carrying out observations and interviews
finally attracted the service to form extracurricular scouts at SDN
Cihanjawar because of the type of extracurricular activities there.

The first step is to ask students for permission to form Scout The third stage after the gathering of students who are interested
extracurricular activities and create registration forms that are in participating in extracurricular activities for scouting staff
distributed throughout the class. Where from the results of the
registration, there are many students who are interested in
participating in scout extracurriculars, although on the day of
training there are still many students who do not attend because
the school is too far away.

schedule in the afternoon every Wednesday at 15.30, it turns out

second week of meetings, more students were more enthusiastic
about participating in training than in the first week of practice. In
the third meeting, the scouting exercises were filled with material
on recitation of yel-yel, right bending exercises, left bending, front
bending, on-site walking, upright steps, right bow and left bow. In
the last meeting, namely tidiness check training, although there
were many obstacles in memorizing exercises ranging from
difficulty memorizing movements, there were students who were
late, and there were students who felt bored, but this did not
reduce the enthusiasm of the students to continue trying until they
could. And on Monday 06 March 2023 extracurricular members
performed UN and sang yel-yel after the ceremony and went on
successfully.

[5.] CONCLUSION
The conclusion is that extracurricular is a character development
activity with the aim of expanding potential, talents, interests,
abilities, personality, and many others. Especially in quality
scouting extracurricular activities that are able to shape the
character of students at the basic education level. Therefore, the
procurement of extracurricular scouts at SDN Cihanjawar is very
welcomed by the school and students. Because with the
procurement of extracurriculars at SDN Cihanjawar, it is able to
become a forum in floating the talents and interests of students
and students, besides that students who have participated in scout
extracurricular activities become more confident, sociable and
dare to express opinions.

complete this journal, entitled "Assistance in the Formation of
Scout Extracurriculars at SDN Cihanjawar in 2023". This journal
is compiled as one of the tasks of reporting on community service
lecture (KPM) activities.
The devotee realized that the preparation of this journal would not
be complete without the help of various parties. Therefore, we
would like to express our deepest gratitude, especially for Mrs.
