INTRODUCTION
Further expansion of oil palm hectarage is rather limited, thus, there is a need to understand palm physiology
that related to production of vegetative and reproductive matter, site-specific yield potential against yield profile,
land suitability and soil fertility capability for oil palm development. Attention must be given to understand
between weather elements and palm reproductive production, leave nutrient analysis versus optimum nutrient
requirements for palm reproductive production in order to close the gap between actual yield and potential yield.
This training program was formulated to highlights and discuss the important factors that contribute to achieving
larger yield.

OBJECTIVE
To share knowledge on oil palm crop production and potential intervention to maximize crop yield potential.

TRAINING OUTCOMES

TRAINER

Tn Hj MOHD YUSOF NELMAT – biodata

Tuan Haji Mohd Yusof Nekmat is an associate consultant of MDV Management, a senior planter and have more
than 30 years experience in commercial plantation management of oil palm and rubber in Malaysia and Indonesia.
He obtained his Master Degree in Plantation Management from University Putra Malaysia and he is also a
certified HRDCorp trainer. He started his career in plantation as Cadet Planter in The East Asiatic Company
Limited (EAC) later known as Hap Seng Plantations Bhd, upon finishing his traineeship he was seconded to EAC
Export dealing with growing, pre harvest, packaging and post harvest perishable fruits such as starfruits, bananas,
ginger, papaya, tropical orchid and local pottery to European market, Japanese market, Australia, United Arab
Emirates and Hong Kong. Later he was transferred to The River Estate Sdn Bhd a subsidiary of Hap Seng
Plantations in Sabah for a new development project of 10,000 hectares where he served for 12 years
experiencing almost all commercial plantation operations from jungle clearing, setting up large scale oil palm
nursery, immature oil palm maintenance and mature oil palm activities. He also involves in development of large-
scale housing complex and 9-holed golf course. He later joined IOI Corporation Bhd at Pamol Plantations where
he managed a re-planting project for 1,200 hectares oil palm to oil palm during his 5 years tenure at the prestigious
company. He was then appointed as the Senior Group Manager at Wilmar International Ltd managing PT
Perkebunan Milano and PT Daya Labuhan Indah comprise of 12,500 hectares of immature, mature and re-
planting of oil palm on peat soils. Later, he was appointed as a Senior Manager at MPI Plantation Sdn Bhd
managing 5,000 hectares oil palm on peat with fully mechanization for 5 years. After that, he was appointed
Senior Manager at Perbadanan Pembangunan Pertanian Negeri Perak managing 15,000 hectares of oil palm and
rubber plantations prior to his retirements at the age of 56, where he has managing the marginal land for
development of oil palm and rubber.

Adding to his knowledge, he grabbed the opportunity and successfully completed the MSPO Lead Auditor
Courses and now a certified Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Auditor, MSPO Certification Consultant and
also a MSPO Peer Reviewer (MPOCC). Since the introduction of MSPO, he has delivered various consultancy
services, training and knowledge sharing in the sustainability subjects to personnel from plantation companies and
university students.

With combination of vast hands-on experience in plantation operations, business management and administration,
knowledge and information from the exposure in plantation sector regionally and passion in human capital
development, he has provided numerous interactive and learner-centered training and development in the areas
of plantation operations and management and project management areas.

MOHD SABRE SALIM – biodata

Known as the modern planter by many, Mohd Sabre Salim has the “special touch” to change the life of a young unknown cadet
trainee to a successful planter. His wide experience in plantation business management areas made him the outstanding person
for reference in developing all levels of personnel in plantation industry. Equipped with the latest and advanced knowledge in
plantation management, it is undeniable he is a role model that young planters of today emulate and dreamed to be.

Colonial trained by traditional Danish planter in the early 80’s, polished by open minded Malaysian planters, he is able to nurture
young school leavers with necessary foundation to become successful planters. To him, pursuing knowledge and gaining
experience to upgrade his career and passion in developing people is a never-ending mission. With this in mind from a Diploma in
Agriculture and degree in Agribusiness in the early 80’s, he pursued his Master in Business Administration (MBA) in 2004/06
specifically for the plantation industry. From then on it was no turning back for him. His mission is to gain experience, get
knowledge, shared with others to add their values. It is proven when he thought plantation business management subjects for
certificates, diploma, degree and masters student from various public and private universities as well as carrying out public and in-
house training programs for plantation personnel.

He is also an accredited trainer by the Human Resource Development Corporation ( HRDCorp - Human Resource Ministry).
competent and certified trainer with a level 3 advanced Train the Trainer from National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
(NIOSH), and Malaysian Construction Development Board (CIDB). He was appointed as an external consultant for human
resource management and development by National Human Resource Centre, Ministry of Human Resource. Adding to his
knowledge, he grabbed the opportunity and successfully completed the MSPO Lead Auditor Courses and now a certified
Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Auditor, MSPO Certification Consultant and also a MSPO Peer Reviewer (MPOCC).
Since the introduction of MSPO, he has delivered various consultancy services, training and knowledge sharing in the
sustainability subjects to personnel from plantation companies and university students.

With combination of vast hands-on experience in plantation operations, business management and administration, knowledge and
information from the exposure in plantation sector regionally, training & presentation competency and passion in human capital
development, he has provided numerous interactive and learner-centered training and development in the areas of plantation
operations and management, managerial and supervisory development programs, plantation financial management, Occupational
Safety and Health Management for plantation and agricultural sector, project management areas, employee performance
management, plantation cadetship programs and also guest lecturer for plantation modules offered by public universities for
diploma, degree and masters students.

He is a very active member of Incorporated Society of Planters, appointed to support the services of
the INCORPORATED SOCIETY of PLANTERS (ISP) as
