UNIVERSITY PRAYER

O God, wellspring of goodness and blessings, we give you thanks and praise as one Louisian community. The
graces You incessantly grant upon us and Your divine providence have sustained our beloved University throughout
the years of mission and excellence.

Having been founded by the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we pray that You keep us committed
and dedicated to our mission and identity to serve the Church and the society as we become living witnesses to the
Gospel values proclaimed by Jesus. For if we are steadfast in our good and beautiful mission, our works will bring
success not only to ourselves but also to those whom we are bound to love and serve.

Inspired by St. Louis our Patron Saint, who was filled with a noble spirit that stirred him to love You above all things ,
may we also live believing that we are born for a greater purpose and mission as we dwell in Your presence all the
days of our life.

Grant all these supplications through the intercession of

Mother Mary and through Christ our Lord. Amen.

LEARNING CONTENT

Introduction:

Outdoor activity is the most common and usual way of having a rest or having vacation for many
people. While some of us prefer staying indoors with a book or movies, others cannot keep their energy inside
and thus try various outdoor activities. Along with it, a large number of people have outdoor hobbies like horse
riding, surfing, camping ant etc. With time, they develop their skills which gives even more pleasure and

confidence. But today, with the COVID 19 pandemic, we are experiencing a significant problem where all the
things that we do is under limitations.

Lesson Proper:

Outdoor recreation or outdoor activity refers to recreation

engaged in out of doors, most commonly in natural settings. The
activities themselves — such as fishing, hunting, backpacking,
and horseback riding — characteristically determine where they
are practiced.

This kind of activity is commonly used for enjoyment, exercise,

challenge, camaraderie, spiritual renewal, and an opportunity to
partake in nature. Though the activities are inherently lean to
sports they nonetheless do not all demand that a participant be an athlete, and competition generally is less
stressed than in individual or team sports organized into opposing squads in pursuit of a trophy or
championship. When the activity involves exceptional excitement, physical challenge, or risk, it is sometimes
referred to as "adventure recreation" or "adventure training", rather than an extreme sport.

ADVENTUROUS ACTIVITY

Adventure activity is an activity that involves

greater than normal risk which may include:
travel into a relatively undeveloped area of the
country in which vehicle contact is difficult
and/or uncertain. Is an unusual, exciting, and
possibly dangerous activity, trip, or experience,
or the excitement produced by such activities

Our country Philippines is commonly known for having a beautiful Archipelago in which it offers
countless of destinations to see, adventures to experience and activities to do like such as the very famous
Sky Diving in Tanauan Batangas, Mountain Bikiing in San Mateo, Rizal, Surfing in La Union and etc.

According to Department of Tourism that “Philippines is known as a beach haven for

celebrities and travel enthusiasts, the country's unique 7,107-island geography makes the
destination just as perfect for travelers looking for adventure, nature, and culture. The
Philippines' diverse natural wonders make us a sought-after destination among the pack of
adventurers; those who choose to explore outdoor escapes.”

So with this it just recently been recognized as a global trend in other country wherein mostly people
who visit our country are from the other country. Our country has been catering to this demand as a way of
life – being blessed with mountains, caves, white waters ,and etc..

We are very thankful because we are living in a country which is blessed with a rich environment— we
have lush forests, tropical islands, white sand beaches, lakes, rivers, mountains— and friendly, artistic and
most specially the value of being a Filipino who are always happy and hardworking to welcome the visitors and
friends.

An adventure is an exciting experience that is typically a bold, sometimes risky, undertaking.

Adventures may be activities with some potential for physical danger such as traveling, exploring, skydiving,
mountain climbing, scuba diving, river raftingor participating in extreme sports. Adventures are often
undertaken to create psychological arousal or in order to achieve a greater goal such as the pursuit of
knowledge that can only be obtained in a risky manner.

Adventurous experiences create psychological arousal, which can be interpreted as negative (e.g. fear) or
positive (e.g.flow). For some people, adventure becomes a major pursuit in and of itself. According to
adventurer André Malraux, in his La Condition Humaine (1933), "If a man is not ready to risk his life, where is
his dignity?". Similarly, Helen Kellerstated that "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing."

Outdoor adventurous activities are typically undertaken for the purposes of recreation or excitement: examples
are adventure racing and adventure tourism. Adventurous activities can also lead to gains in knowledge, such
as those undertaken by explorers and pioneers – the British adventurer Jason Lewis, for example, uses
adventures to draw global sustainability lessons from living within finite environmental constraints on
expeditions to share with school children. Adventure education intentionally uses challenging experiences for
learning.

Author Jon Levy suggests that an experience should meet several criteria to be considered an adventure:

EXAMPLES

o Exploration
o Tourism
o Travel
o Sports
o Adventure travel

Exploration

Is the act of searching for the purpose of discovery of

information or resources. Exploration occurs in all non-
sessile animal species, including humans. In human history,
its most dramatic rise was during the Age of Discovery when
European explorers sailed and charted much of the rest of
the world for a variety of reasons. Since then, major
explorations after the Age of Discovery have occurred for
reasons mostly aimed at information discovery.

In the Philippines, you can also experience this type of adventure. Our country is a haven for cave
exploration enthusiasts.

The caves in Sagada feature spectacular lime formations.

These caves are also ancestral burial sites for the local indigenous
people.

The famous Callao cave located in Pena Blanca Cagayan, has a

“chapel” made of gothic-like arches formed by stalagmites and stalactites. And
at dusk, visitors are treated to the sights of thousands of bats streaming out
of the mouth of the cave.

Meanwhile in Palawan, you can explore the St. Paul Subterranean

River, the world’s longest underground waterway. No doubt there are
still hundreds of fascinating caves in the Philippines that are still
waiting to be discovered.

Tourism

Is travel for pleasure or business; also the theory and

practice of touring, the business of attracting,
accommodating, and entertaining tourists, and the
business of operating tours. The World Tourism
Organization defines tourism more generally, in
terms which go "beyond the common perception of
tourism as being limited to holiday activity only", as
people "traveling to and staying in places outside
their usual environment for not more than one
consecutive year for leisure and not less than 24
hours, business and other purposes".

ACTIVITY)
WARNING: No part of this E-module/LMS Content can be reproduced, transported or shared with others without permission from the University. Unauthorized use of the materials, other than personal
learning use, will be penalized. Please be guided accordingly.
Tourism can be domestic (within the traveller's own country) or international, and international tourism has both
incoming and outgoing implications on a country's balance of payments.

Travel

Is the movement of people between distant

geographical locations. Travel can be done by foot, bicycle,
automobile, train, boat, bus, airplane, ship or other means,
with or without luggage, and can be one way or round trip.
Travel can also include relatively short stays between
successive movements, as in the case of tourism.

Reasons for traveling include recreation, tourism or

vacationing, research travel, the gathering of information,
visiting people, volunteer travel for charity, migration to
begin life somewhere else, religious pilgrimages and
mission trips, business travel, trade, commuting, and other
reasons, such as to obtain health care[or waging or fleeing war or for the enjoyment of traveling. Travellers
may use human-powered transport such as walking or bicycling; or vehicles, such as public transport,
automobiles, trains and airplanes.

Motives for travel include:

• Pleasure
• Relaxation
• Discovery and exploration
• Intercultural communications
• Taking personal time for building interpersonal relationships.

Travel safety

Authorities emphasize the importance of taking precautions to ensure travel safety. When traveling
abroad, the odds favor a safe and incident-free trip, however, travelers can be subject to difficulties, crime and
violence. Some safety considerations include being aware of one's surroundings, avoiding being the target of a
crime, leaving copies of one's passport and itinerary information with trusted people, obtaining medical
insurance valid in the country being visited and registering with one's national embassy when arriving in a
foreign country. Many countries do not recognize drivers' licenses from other countries; however most
countries accept international driving permits. Automobile insurance policies issued in one's own country are
often invalid in foreign countries, and it is often a requirement to obtain temporary auto insurance valid in the
country being visited. It is also advisable to become oriented with the driving-rules and -regulations of
destination countries. Wearing a seat belt is highly advisable for safety reasons; many countries have penalties
for violating seatbelt laws.

Sport

Includes all forms of competitive physical activity

or games which, through casual or organised
participation, at least in part aim to use, maintain or

improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants, and in some cases, entertainment
for spectators.

There are hundreds of sports exist not only for competitive activity like boxing, but we have also the so
called Sport Adventure wherein people involve here will experience high excitement and thrill.

In the Philippines we have this kind of sport adventure

which is the Whitewater Rafting. A Philippine whitewater
rafting experience is exciting, relaxing, and thrilling at the
same time. This sport is relatively new for the local people, as
it became popular only several decades ago. Still, the rivers of
the Philippines are perfectly suited for such an activity.

The Philippines number several whitewater rivers that

have a year-round rafting season. However, each one has a
bit different high season. Cagayan de Oro, for example, is the
best during wet months between June and December. On
Chico River, the best time runs from June to early January.

The most thrilling experience on Kabula river is possible from May to December, whereas the Davao
River is equally good year-round. Other popular locations to practice this exciting water sport include Balanac
River in Magdalena, where you can enjoy sliding down the slope of Balanac Dam, and Calbiga River in Samar
famous for its impressive caves.

Adventure travel

Is a type of niche tourism, involving exploration or

travel with a certain degree of risk (real or perceived), and
which may require special skills and physical exertion. In the
United States, adventure tourism has grown in recent decades
as tourists seek out-of-the-ordinary or "roads less traveled"
vacations, but lack of a clear operational definition has
hampered measurement of market size and growth. According
to the U.S.-based Adventure Travel Trade Association,
adventure travel may be any tourist activity that includes
physical activity, a cultural exchange, and connection with
nature.

Adventure tourists may have the motivation to achieve mental

states characterized as rush or flow, resulting from stepping outside their comfort zone. This may be from

experiencing culture shock or by performing acts requiring significant effort and involve some degree of risk,
real or perceived, or physical danger. This may include activities such as mountaineering, trekking, bungee
jumping, mountain biking, cycling, canoeing, scuba diving ,rafting, kayaking, zip-lining, paragliding, hiking,
exploring, canyoneering, sand boarding, caving and rock climbing. Some obscure forms of adventure travel
include disaster and ghetto tourism. Other rising forms of adventure travel include social and jungle tourism.

As a closely related subspecies of adventure travels, event trips involve various kinds of touristic travels that
aim at particular activities as an important part of the travel, which don't necessary fulfil the criteria of being
proper adventures. Activities comprised under the term "event trips" range from international sports events (i.e.
FIFA World Cup, Super Bowl) to renowned cultural events (i.e. Bayreuth Festival, Venice Film Festival).

Access to inexpensive consumer technology, with respect to Global Positioning Systems, flash-packing, social
networking and photography, have increased the worldwide interest in adventure travel. The interest in
independent adventure travel has also increased as more specialist travel websites emerge offering previously
niche locations and sports.

Types of Travel

Extreme tourism

Extreme tourism involves travel to dangerous (extreme) locations or

participation in dangerous events or activities. This form of tourism can
overlap with extreme sport.

Extreme tourism may involve the following:

 Cave Diving
 Paragliding.
 Trekking

Jungle tourism

Jungle tourism is a subcategory of adventure travel defined by

active multifaceted physical means of travel in the jungle regions of
the earth.

According to the Glossary of Tourism Terms, jungle tours have

become a major component of green tourism in tropical destinations
and are a relatively recent phenomenon of Western international
tourism.

Overland travel

Overland travel or over-landing refers to an "overland

journey" – perhaps originating with Marco Polo's first overland
expedition in the 13th century from Venice to the Mongolian

court of Kublai Khan. Today overlanding is a form of extended adventure holiday, embarking on a long journey,
often in a group. Overland companies provide a converted truck or a bus plus a tour leader, and the group
travels together overland for a period of weeks or months.

Since the 1960s over-landing has been a popular means of travel between destinations across Africa, Europe,
Asia(particularly India), the Americas and Australia. The "Hippie trail" of the 60s and 70s saw thousands of
young westerners travelling through the Middle East to India and Nepal. Many of the older traditional routes are
still active, along with newer routes like Iceland to South Africa overland and Central Asian post soviet states.

PURPOSE AND BENEFITS OF OUTDOOR GAMES

Outdoor recreation consists of a range of various

outdoor activities. Although many are considered sports,
participants need not associate with teams, competitions or
clubs. Activities include backpacking, canoeing, canyoning,
caving, climbing, hiking, hill walking, hunting, kayaking, and
rafting. Arguably, broader groupings include water sports,
snow sports, and horseback riding.

The outdoors as a physical or social setting may meet

the needs of physical health, self-sufficiency, risk-taking,
the building of social ties, and the needs of achievement
(such as practicing, enhancing and challenging skills,
testing stamina and endurance, and seeking adventure or
excitement). The outdoors can be an environment in which people "show what they can do".

Pleasurable appreciation encourages experiences of being "let in on nature's show". Enhancement of

inner perceptual and/or spiritual life may be experienced through outdoor act, painting, photography,
archeological or historical research, and indigenous culture among others. These activities may also be
physically rewarding.

Outdoor activities may also be pursued for the purposes of finding peace in nature, enjoying life, and
relaxing. They are alternatives to expensive forms of tourism. Outdoor activities are also frequently used as a
medium in education and team building.
