SPEAKING UNIT 1+ 2

I. SPEAKING CARD

do you have a computer or laptop at home: i don’t have a computer i think, I

can't take it go everywhere but the laptop is more convenient. so I chose to buy a
laptop
how often do you use it to surf the Internet: i offten use smart phone when i’m
not at home. When coming back home, i use laptop to surft the internet.
do you need laptop for your future job: yes certainly I think I will become a cad
designer in the future so the laptop is really needed for me because I must design
and then draw objects in cad software
what is your favorite subject in University: I like English for mechanical
engineering most because there is a beautiful teacher and when I'm in this class I
don't feel stressed. Because the teacher teaches very hard.
do you have any difficulties studying at the University: yes, I have. some
subjects are so hard maybe because I'm not focused so I don't understand what the
teacher says.
what skills and personalities are required for your future job: being an
engineer in the future I need three skills they are teamwork skills time management
skills and communication skills
and when work at company, i need to be energetic and work-hard.
what are you doing to improve these skills: as a student, I need to attend clubs
such as 4c, and E4U.. to improve my soft skills and I can learn from teachers and
classmate.
what are your strengths and weakness I believe my good points are being hard-
working, optimistic, passionate, and energetic, however, sometimes I tend to be
lazy.
do you have a part-time job: yes, I have. now i'm working as a milk canned
worker at Green Speed company
do you think that you can learn anything from Part-time jobs: yes of course I
learned to be patient, and communicative
`
do you have any plans for your future jobs.
where are you going to live and work.
Which company are you going to work for?.

Unit 3: Gears – Drives

Gears
Suggested answer:

A: How are the plans for the new transmission system?

B: Pretty good. But we still need to decide what gears to use for transmission 6D.
A: Okay. But I want to know the requirements for gears.
B: We need the gears that can reduce noise and vibration; also, they can reduce
speed.
A: We should use worm and worm gears or helical gears because they can meet all
requirements.

B: Can you tell me the features of both types of gears?

A: About worm and worm gear, they have one continuous tooth, and quiet and
smooth meshing action. About helical gears, they are stronger than spur gears and
its teeth are cut in a spiral shape.
B: How about the functions of both types of gears?
A: Helical gears are used in high-speed applications, large power transmission and
they help control noise while worm and worm gears only can reduce speed.
B: Well, I’d like to use helical gears because we need the gears that are stronger
than spur gears. How much is a pair of helical gears?
A: Hmm... It costs about $40.
B: I think it’s reasonable. Let’s use helical gears.
A: Sounds like a plan.

Suggested conversations:

Situation 1.
A: Hi, James. I’d like to order your company to manufacture chain drive for an
electric motor.
B: Yes, sure. First of all, Could you tell me about its functions. What is it used for?
A: Well, it is used to transmit motion and power between successive chain with
sprocket special toothed wheels.
B: What is it made of?
A: Well. It’s made of metal with a number of links to prevent it from slipping.
B: So what about its efficiency?
A: Hmm. It has high efficiency (usually above 95%). Besides, it is not affected by
atmospheric condition and temperature.
B: Oh, I see. Does it have any problems using?
A: As I concerned, it causes noise and vibrations and it requires frequent
lubrication during operation.
B: Really. We will do our best to reduce these problems
A: That’s great.
Situation 2
B: Good morning, I’d like to order your company to produce belt drive for our
electric car.
A: Yes, sure. First of all, about its functions. What is it used for?
B: It is used to transmit motion and power from one shaft to another by means of
frictional between belt and pulleys
A: Now, I want to know more about its material. Is it made of rubber and plastic?
B: Exactly.
A: How about its operation and requirements for maintenance?
B: It can reduce noise and vibration and it requires minimum maintenance. As a
result, it doesn’t need to lubricate.
A: Oh. Do you know some of its disadvantages?
B: Well. I know that the belt drive can slip. Moreover, it has comparatively low
efficiency due to frictional loss.
A: Really. We will do our best to reduce these problems
B: That’s great.

UNIT 4:
Suggested conversation

A: Good morning, Dr. John. Can we have a talk now?

B: Sure. What can I do for you?
A: Our team really needs a new CAD program for the current project.
B: What are you working on?
A: We are designing ………………and the current program has some limitations.

B: What are their limitations?

A:………………………..(give the limitations)

B: I see. What can the new program do?

A: It can………………….(give the capabilities of new program)

B: That’s impressive. What kind of files does it support?

A: It can read and create ………………………….(files)
B: You convinced me. I’ll order it right away.

Situation 1:
B: Good morning Sir,
A: Oh. Good morning Mr. A. How are you doing?

B: Pretty good. Thanks. Well, can we discuss the type of plastic for the oil tank
project – the one we are working on right now?
A: Sure, Sir. What are your requirements?
B: You know, the oil tank needs to be resistant to chemical and heat

A: OK. Anything else?

B: Let me see... well it also needs to be ductile.
A: I see. The oil tank might be broken during shipping, right? And how much are
you willing to pay?

B. Less than …………So which type of plastic is suitable?

A: Based on your requirement, I think plastic type 6 might be a great choice.
